In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Brighton host a Tottenham side reeling from a hammering in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

Brighton (Odds of 13/5 for victory)

The Seagulls have made a poor start to life under highly-rated boss Graham Potter. In fact, the team from the south coast have failed to win in six Premier League games.

Their poor top-flight form dates back to last season, as they have recorded just one Premier League win in 16 outings. Last season’s poor form led to the sacking of Chris Hughton and Potter arrival as boss.

The home side has yet to remedy one of their main problems last season, which was finding the net. The Seagulls have now failed to score in four of their last five league games, scoring just once in the process.

The team from the south coast have also struggled for victory on home soil of late. They have now failed to win in eight league games at the AMEX Stadium while suffering five defeats.

While goalscoring has been a big problem for Brighton of late, they have also been poor defensively on home soil, keeping just one clean sheet in their last ten league matches at the AMEX Stadium. The visit of a fairly free-scoring Tottenham is not likely to lead to an improvement in that record either.

Tottenham (Odds of 19/20 for victory)

The visitors head into this clash on the back of a humiliating 7-2 midweek defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The defeat has only added pressure on boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has come in for criticism of late from some fans.

In truth, the criticism is partly due to Spurs highly inconsistent start to their Premier League campaign. The team from north London have won just three of their seven Premier League games so far this season.

The visitors away form in the English top-flight has been poor dating back to last season, as Pochettino’s team has now failed to win in nine away matches in the Premier League, suffering seven defeats in the process.

Poor defensive displays have been the crux of Tottenham’s recent away day blues, as they have conceded at least twice in seven of those nine winless games on their travels.

One positive for Spurs is that they have won five of the last six meetings with Brighton in all competitions, dating back to 2005. They are in dire need of another victory in this clash.

Prediction

The same problem persists for Brighton under Potter as Chris Hughton experienced while Seagulls boss, that is scoring goals. However, Tottenham been generous in defence of late, so they may just be in luck.

For the visitors, the situation is simple, they simply have to win after that awful defeat against Bayern Munich last time out. If media reports to be believed, then anything other than a Spurs win could see Pochettino exit the club.

Despite that defeat against Bayern Munich, we expect Tottenham end that terrible recent away run and record a victory on the south coast. We are backing the away win at odds of 19/20.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 19/20 (Odds are taken from Bet365)
