Premier League football returns this weekend as Crystal Palace prepare to host runaway leaders Liverpool at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have been blowing hot and cold all throughout the early few months of the season so far, which is what we’ve come to expect from them under Roy Hodgson. One week they look like absolute world beaters and then the next they leave us wondering how they aren’t stranded in the relegation battle. The Eagles have been known to cause teams like Liverpool problems before, and we believe they will again here, but stability is going to be the key for this squad moving forward.

Palace’s wins over Norwich and West Ham put them in a really good position at the top of the table, but from there, it all started to go a bit pear-shaped. Granted, they’ve faced some tough opposition, as they grabbed a point against Arsenal before suffering 2-0 defeats to Manchester City, Leicester City and Chelsea.

Liverpool

The coronation of Liverpool as the Champions of England once again has certainly been a long time coming – or, at least, that’s been the general perception. Jurgen Klopp has been able to lead this club towards great things already, mainly in relation to the UEFA Champions League. Now, though, the focus is very clear, and given their lead at the top of the table at this moment in time, you won’t find all too many fans who would bet against them holding onto their advantage and eventually claiming the title.

The only time Liverpool have failed to win inside 90 minutes in their last six was during their 5-5 draw against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, and even then they were able to win the game on penalties. In the Champions League they secured the double over Genk to improve their chances of reaching the knockout stage, and in the Premier League, they beat Tottenham and Aston Villa before securing a huge win over closest challengers Manchester City.

Conclusion

While Palace will probably settle behind the ball for the first 20 minutes or so, we’re expecting them to really come at Liverpool on the counter from that point on. They’re going to give as good as they get and while we do believe they’ll lose their shape and structure down the stretch, they’ll put out a good account of themselves. It’s going to take something incredibly special, or lucky, to beat Liverpool in the Premier League this season, and we don’t think the Eagles will get the job done.

Both sides have fire power in their back locker, and we think all the big boys will come out to play here – leading to the over 2.5 goals threshold being met pretty convincingly, which should make for a thoroughly entertaining encounter for the neutrals.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 2/5 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from bet365).
