Tottenham v Olympiakos preview, prediction and odds

Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (1/3) v Olympiakos (10/1) We are backing the home win.

When: Tuesday 26th November 2019, Kick-off 8 PM

Where: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

It has been all change of late at Spurs, with Jose Mourinho replacing Mauricio Pochettino as the team’s head coach. The Portuguese boss recorded a 3-2 victory at West Ham in his opening game in charge at the weekend.

The win means that Tottenham are now four games unbeaten in all competitions, despite the exit of Pochettino. However, prior to the win at the London Stadium, they had won just two of their previous eight matches in all competitions, with both of those wins coming against qualification rivals Red Belgrade.

The two wins over the Serbian giants have helped Spurs to the verge of qualification for the knockout stages of the competition. In fact, another win over the Greek side in this game would book Tottenham’s place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite competition.

Spurs have a highly inconsistent recent record in the Champions League, having won just three of their last seven outings in the competition. Of course, two of those wins were in their aforementioned outings with Red Star Belgrade.

Tottenham have lost two of their last three European games on home soil, including a 7-2 thumping by group leaders Bayern Munich. Mourinho’s presence in the dugout is likely to end those sorts of results.

The Greek side are bottom of the group, having taken just a point from their four games this season. The only in which the visitors avoided defeat Group B was on gameweek one in the reverse fixture, picking up a respectable 2-2 draw.

However, their European campaign has gone downhill since the draw, with three straight defeats. Despite, their poor campaign so far, they could still rescue a third-place finish which would be enough to drop down into the Europa League. Picking up a result in this clash looks unlikely, though.

The Greek side has failed to win a group game in the Champions League since 2015 when a certain Marco Silva managed them. While the Portuguese bosses’ future is in doubt at Everton, Olympiakos’ Champions League prospects also look very bleak.

Defensive vulnerabilities have been at the heart of the Greek side’s struggles in the Champions League this season, as they have conceded at least twice in all four games in Group B.

Unsurprisingly considering their position in the group, Olympiakos have struggled for results away from home in Europe’s elite competition. In fact, they have won just twice in their last eight games on their travels, which have both been in the preliminary rounds.

The arrival of Mourinho was always going to put an extra spring in the Tottenham players step. Despite a reputation as a pragmatist, the Portuguese boss has got the best out many attacking players in his managerial career.

The 3-2 win at West Ham in his opening game suggests he can get the best out of the talented players in Spurs’ squad. With that in mind as well as backing the home win, we are also backing Heung-Min Son to score at anytime.

Verdict: Back the home win and/or Heung-Min Son to score at anytime at odds of 7/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
