Prediction and odds for the game: Mainz (9/5) v Eintracht Frankfurt (11/8) We are backing the draw at odds of 11/4.

When: Monday 2nd December 2019, Kick-off 7:30 PM

Where: The Opel Arena

On Monday night, Mainz host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, as both teams look to push up the German top-flight table.

Mainz

The home side recorded an extraordinary 5-1 win at Hoffenheim in new head coach Achim Beierlorzer’s first game in charge. The victory was made extra special by the visitors played over half the game with ten-men.

The victory was a much-needed one though, as Mainz had lost their previous two Bundesliga games, including suffering a humiliating 8-0 loss at RB Leipzig. Their recent record in the Bundesliga is not a great one, as they have lost five of their last eight games in the German top-flight.

Their recent matches may not have been entertaining for the home fans, but they have been for the neutrals, as five of their last six league matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Mainz’s recent inconsistency on home soil is illustrated by the fact that they have won three and lost of their last six games on home soil. A victory at the Opel Arena in this clash would move the home side two within two points of the visitors.

Eintracht Frankfurt

The visitors have experienced fortunes so far this season in the Bundesliga. Their recent form has not been great, but they will be hoping a 2-1 victory at Arsenal in the Europa League on Thursday night will lift spirits at the club.

The win ended a three-game losing streak in all competitions for Adi Hutter’s team. Two of those three defeats were in the Bundesliga, which contributed to Frankfurt slipping to tenth place and seven points behind the Champions League. A top-four finish would not be an unrealistic hope for the visitors at the start of the season. However, to put themselves back in the fight for a Champions League spot, they need to start winning again.

A woeful recent set of results away from home of late in the Bundesliga has not helped the Hutter’s team’s chances of breaking into the top-four. The visitors have won once in their last eight away matches while suffering defeats in six of their last seven matches on their travels in the Bundesliga. A failure to keep a clean sheet in nine away matches has contributed to their poor recent away form.

Conclusion

Both teams produced potentially confidence-boosting wins in their last outings and were impressive in pulling off the victories. Mainz are highly unpredictable on home soil, while Eintracht Frankfurt are poor travellers.

With these two things in mind, we are backing the draw, as neither team are in great form, but both will fancy their chances of pulling off a victory. The other bet we are backing is both teams to score, as neither team seems able to keep a clean sheet.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 11/4 and/or both teams to score at odds of 8/15. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
