Prediction and odds for the game: Barcelona (8/11) v Real Madrid (10/3)

We are backing the home win

When: Wednesday 18th December 2019, Kick-off 7 PM

Where: The Nou Camp

On Wednesday night, one of the biggest games in European football takes place at the Nou Camp, as Barcelona and Real Madrid face off in El Clasico.

Barcelona

After a slightly inconsistent start to their La Liga title defence, Barcelona have been in decent form of late. A run of four wins and a draw in their last five games has been enough to keep the Catalan giants ahead of Wednesday’s opponents, but only by virtue of a better goal difference.

Ernesto Valverde’s side have certainly been impressive in front of goal of late in La Liga, as they have scored at least twice in nine of their last 11 matches in the Spanish top-flight. Their scoring exploits have led to over 2.5 goals scored in ten of their last 11 league outings.

To say that Barcelona are strong on home soil would be an understatement, as the Catalan giants are unbeaten in 19 home games in La Liga, winning an impressive 18 times in the process.

The recent history of this fixture is also on Barcelona’s side, as the reigning champions are unbeaten against Los Blancos in six meetings in all competitions.

Real Madrid

The visitors are arguably enjoying their best La Liga campaign in a good while. Zinedine Zidane’s team trail the hosts by just two goals, that is how close it is at the top of the table.

Like Barcelona, Los Blancos have been in good form of late in the Spanish top-flight, winning four of their last five league outings. A four-match winning run in the Spanish top-flight came to an end last time out, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Valencia.

Prior to the draw at the Mestalla, Zidane’s team had been prolific in the Spanish top-flight, scoring at least twice in their four previous matches in La Liga. Those scoring exploits will come as little surprise, as only the leaders have scored more goals than the visitors in the Spanish top-flight this season.

The visitors do not have a great recent away record, as although they have suffered just one defeat in eight league outings, they have also recorded just four wins that run of fixtures.

Despite Los Blancos struggling for wins against Barcelona in general, they have lost just once in their last six visits to the Nou Camp. Although have also won just once in those six games too, as draws have dominated the fixture.

Conclusion

This game could be an exciting clash, with very little between the two teams at the moment. However, we are backing Barcelona to record a win, as they seemed to have had the better of Los Blancos and Zidane in recent games.

We are also backing both teams to score at odds of 1/ 2, which seems pretty good odds considering that both teams have such potent attacking options.

Verdict: Back the home in at odds of 8/11 and/or both teams to score at odds of 1/ 2. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
