Prediction & odds for the game: Everton (13/10) v Arsenal (15/8)

When: Saturday, 21th December 2019 @ 12.30pm K.O

Where: Goodison Park

Everton and Arsenal will attempt to kickstart their respective new eras with a win in the Premier League as they clash at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Everton

Everton mean business if their heavily rumoured appointment of Carlo Ancelotti is anything to go by, as the Toffees attempt to edge their way up towards the top half of the table following a disastrous first half of the campaign under Marco Silva. They’ve got a string of strong squad players that are capable of doing some great things for the club, but they just don’t seem to have gelled as a unit up to this point. The game against Arsenal this weekend serves as the perfect opportunity for them to do that.

Three losses in the last six against Liverpool, Leicester and Norwich have left Everton in a tricky spot – as you can imagine. They did secure a draw against Southampton, and since Duncan Ferguson has taken over, they’ve been able to beat Chelsea and edge out a draw against Manchester United.

Arsenal

The expectation is that Mikel Arteta, who played for both of these clubs, is going to be taking over as Arsenal’s new manager in time for this game. He’ll be replacing Freddie Ljungberg and while it seems like a risk, the Gunners had to do something in order to put a stop to their slow yet steady decline. They’ve got the potential to run straight through Everton, but it’s pretty obvious to see that the first team squad is completely devoid of any confidence – and it’ll take a big effort to rediscover that.

Arsenal have one win across the last few months and that came against fellow London club West Ham United. They were only able to draw 2-2 against Standard Liege and Norwich City, whereas they experienced disappointing losses to Eintracht Frankfurt, Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Conclusion

We think both clubs will get on the scoresheet and we think both will show moments of magic in doing so: but it won’t be good enough for either to claim all three points. It’s going to take a while for these two historic English sides to get back into the sort of form that we’ve come to expect from them, and there’s no issue with that. We’re going to see two teams that just can’t pull the trigger as efficiently as they used to, and while that may be chaotic, it’ll be a lot of fun, too.

Goals aren’t something that either side are well known for this season, which is why we’re putting our weight behind the under 2.5 goals market.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 13/5 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/8. (All odds are taken from bet365).
