Prediction & odds for the game: Tottenham (11/8) v Chelsea (7/4)

When: Sunday, 22nd December 2019 @ 4.30pm K.O

Where: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Two old rivals will clash once again this weekend as Tottenham Hotspur prepare to host Chelsea in the Premier League.

Tottenham

Under the guidance of Jose Mourinho it feels like Tottenham are starting something of a resurgence, which is bizarre when you consider just how much has changed since the Champions League Final six months ago. It’ll be fascinating to see what sort of changes are implemented during the January transfer window, but in many ways, that isn’t even the real story here. The story is that Spurs are showcasing the sort of resilience that they’ve been missing all season long, which is precisely what they need.

Tottenham’s two losses in their last six came against Bayern Munich in a fairly pointless Champions League clash and Manchester United in what was a pretty appalling display from Jose’s men. In their last outing, though, they got back on track with a nice last minute win over Wolves, which goes nicely alongside their recent successes against Burnley, Bournemouth and Olympiakos.

Chelsea

Frank Lampard has hit a bit of a rough spell as of late with the Blues, but that won’t detract from the fact that this is the most fun Chelsea team to watch since Carlo Ancelotti was at the helm. They’re in the mix for a top four spot and they’re into the knockout stage of the Champions League, which is more than most critics were anticipating at this early stage. Now, they need to take that next step and really strengthen at the back if they want to keep this momentum going.

Chelsea are hobbling towards the New Year with the sort of inconsistency that we’ve come to expect from teams much lower down the table than them. They’ve beaten Aston Vila and Lille, and also drew 2-2 with Valencia in an exciting game over in Spain, but narrow losses to Bournemouth, Everton and West Ham have baffled quite a few fans – and understandably so.

Conclusion

In what many will dub the second Mourinho derby of the season, we’re expecting plenty of drama between two of London’s finest. We actually think Chelsea are going to take the lead pretty early on, only for Spurs to get stronger and stronger as the game moves into the second half. In the end we’re picturing them edging out a narrow win, which will serve as a huge psychological blow for the Blues at such a crucial point in the season.

In our mind we’re picturing a narrow 2-1 win for Tottenham, which is why we think that the over 2.5 goals market will indeed be reached.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 11/8 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/7. (All odds are taken from bet365).
