Prediction & odds for the game: Wolves (13/2) v Manchester City (2/5)

When: Friday, 27th December 2019 @ 7.45pm K.O

Where: Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers will attempt to defeat champions Manchester City once again when they meet at Molineux in the Premier League.

Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers are starting to establish themselves as a top half team in the Premier League, and it hasn’t even taken them all too long to do so. They’ve been able to juggle their European responsibilities with their domestic work brilliantly, and it certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed with the likes of Arsenal sniffing around manager Nuno Espirito Santo. He seems to be content with staying where he is, though, which will serve as music to the ears of Wolves fans.

Wolves’ recent last minute defeat to Tottenham brought an end to their unbeaten run, but it didn’t get them down as they bounced straight back with a win over Norwich. Their other victories as of late came against Besiktas and West Ham United, alongside some tense draws against Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Manchester City

The setbacks for Manchester City this season have been well documented, with a loss to Wolves earlier on in the campaign being one of the most notable. They’ll be out for revenge when they make the trip down to the Midlands, knowing that they need to start chipping away at Liverpool’s lead in the title race. If they’re unable to do so in the next few months, then they may start putting all of their eggs into the Champions League basket.

City’s loss to rivals Manchester United in early December certainly hurt them, but they’ve had a pretty strong month aside from that. They tore through Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League to confirm their place in the knockout stage, they battered Arsenal, Burnley and Leicester in the Premier League, and they also moved one step closer towards winning the Carabao Cup by beating Oxford in their quarter-final.

Conclusion

While backing City always seems to be the smartest thing to do in just about any scenario, we can’t bring ourselves to predict them to get the win against a team that clearly has their number in one way or another. Wolves are one of the strongest sides in English football and they play a certain style, especially at Molineux, that allows them to break teams down and frustrate them. We think they’re going to share the points in what should be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend.

With entertainment usually comes goals, but we don’t think there are going to be all too many of those. Therefore, we’re backing the under 2.5 goal threshold – but don’t let that fool you, because we’re still talking about two of the Premier League’s finest.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 4/1 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/8. (All odds are taken from bet365).
