Prediction & odds for the game: Sheffield United (8/1) v Manchester City (1/3)
When: Tuesday, 21st January 2020 @ 7.30pm K.O
Where: Bramall Lane
Sheffield United will go toe to toe with Manchester City next week as their push for a place in the Premier League’s top six continues.
Blades fans all around the world, and especially within the city, need to be pinched in order for this season. to be believed. In the blink of an eye they’ve gone from being relegation contenders at the start of the campaign to top six hopefuls, and they’ve done so with one of the most unassuming squads in the league. If they can pick up just a few mores wins, then they’ll well and truly already be safe in the top flight of English football for another year.
Sheffield United have been able to beat West Ham in the Premier League and AFC Fylde in the FA Cup as of late in addition toa draw against Arsenal at the Emirates, with the latter confirming that they are top six challengers. They also dropped back to back losses against Manchester City and Liverpool, though, and also couldn’t beat Watford in a 1-1 draw.
While it may seem a little bit early to write off Manchester City’s title hopes in January, it certainly feels like they’re on their way towards surrendering their title to Liverpool. They keep dropping points every few weeks to the point where it just doesn’t seem realistic to think they’re in with a shot of retaining the trophy. Still, they’ll keep fighting until the very end, as Pep Guardiola attempts to pull off one of the most unlikely comebacks in Premier League history.
From a quality point of view, it’s hard to argue with the success City have enjoyed in recent weeks. They’ve beaten Sheffield United, Everton, Port Vale, Manchester United and Aston Villa across three different competitions in 15 days, which is a real testament to their strength in depth. However, the draw against Crystal Palace was a massive step backwards.
These two teams will almost definitely show each other more respect than you’d expect, with Sheffield United starting off in a defensive stance before getting into a rhythm and really going at Manchester City. We think the hosts will probably be the ones to take the lead at Bramall Lane, only for City to claw their way back into it. In what should be one of the most entertaining games in the Premier League of the year so far, we’re backing City to edge themselves over the finish line.
The entertainment value of the top flight always holds up in games like these, and because of that, we’re backing over 2.5 goals.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 1/3 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/7. (All odds are taken from bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
