Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (4/11) v Burnley (8/1)

We are backing under 2.5 goals at evens

When: 22nd January 2020, Kick-off 8:15 PM

Where: Old Trafford

On Wednesday night, Manchester United host Burnley at Old Trafford in the Premier League, in a game that could prove pivotal two both team’s seasons.

Manchester United

The Red Devils inconsistent Premier League campaign continued last time out when they suffered a 2-0 defeat at league leaders, Liverpool. The defeat means that United have lost two of their last three games in the top-flight, as they also suffered a loss at Arsenal.

The home sides recent matches have been relatively low-scoring in the Premier League, in five of their last seven league outings.

Despite a relatively inconsistent poor recent run of form in the Premier League, United are just five points outside the top-four in the English top-flight. The absence of star striker Marcus Rashford for an estimated two months is a big blow to the Red Devils chances of landing a Champions League spot.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have been relatively strong on home soil of late in the Premier League, as they are unbeaten in nine matches at Old Trafford. United have also been prolific on home soil of late in the top-flight, winning five of their last six outings.

Burnley

The Clarets make the short journey to Old Trafford in good spirits after a 2-1 home win over Leicester last time out. The win lifted Sean Dyche’s team five points above the relegation zone.

The victory was a much-needed one, though, as it ended a four-game losing streak for the Clarets in the Premier League. Everybody connected with the visitors will be hoping that the win marks the start of a march up the Premier League table.

Burnley have been travel sick of late in the English top-flight, winning just two of their last 13 away games dating back to last April. More recently the Clarets have lost three of their last four matches on their travels in the top-flight, failing to score in each defeat. In fact, the visitors have failed to score in four of their last six away matches in the league.

Burnley have failed to beat Manchester United in the last ten meetings between the two teams in all competitions. The Clarets last victory over the Red Devils was way back in 2009. However, they have earned draws on their last three visits to Old Trafford.

Conclusion

We do believe that Manchester United will come out on top in this clash. However, it is unlikely to be a comfortable home win, which is why we are backing under 2.5 goals scored. The absence of Rashford is also a factor in our prediction.

Rashford’s injury could well open the door for highly-rated youngster Mason Greenwood, who we are backing to score at anytime at odds of 6/5.

Verdict: We are backing the under 2.5 goals scored at evens and or Mason Greenwood to be an anytime scorer at odds of 6/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
