Valencia v Celta Vigo preview, prediction and odds

Prediction and odds for the game: Valencia (4/6) v Celta Vigo (4/1)

We are backing the home win

When: Saturday 1st February 2020, Kick-off 8 PM

Where: The Estadio Mestalla

On Saturday night, Valencia host Celta Vigo at the Mestalla, in what could be a vital game at both ends of La Liga.

The home side has experienced a mixed campaign in La Liga this season. However, Los Ches head into this game just two points outside La Liga’s Champions League spot after a 2-0 win over reigning champions Barcelona at the Mestalla last time out.

The win will bring added belief amongst the players and the fans that they can once again finish in the Spanish top-flight’s top four this season.

In truth, the home sides recent form in La Liga has been inconsistent. However, the recent poor 4-1 defeat at Real Mallorca is Los Ches’ only defeat in their last seven league outings, so they are difficult to beat at least.

Valencia are particularly difficult to beat at the Mestalla. The famous old ground has always been a fortress for Los Ches. In fact, the home side has lost just one of their last 24 league matches at the famous old ground. Albert Celades’ team has also won four of their last five home games in La Liga.

Celta Vigo

Once again, Celta are involved in La Liga relegation battle. While many have said that the visitors are too good to go down, there is a big possibility that Oscar Garcia’s team could suffer relegation this season.

Celta are currently 18th place in the table but are just one point from safety. One point does not sound like much of a gap to safety. However, the visitors have won just one of their last 13 league matches, so really are struggling for victories.

Their biggest problem this season in La Liga has been scoring goals. A goal tally of just 17 goals from their first 21 league matches is a poor one. It also means that only fellow basement dwellers Leganes have scored fewer La Liga goals this season.

As you would expect from a team in the relegation zone, Celta does not have the best away record. The visitors have won just one of their last 22 La Liga matches on their travels, dating back to December 2018.

Defensive issues have been at the heart of their away problems of late in La Liga, as they have not kept a clean sheet in eight matches on their travels.

Valencia will be full of confidence after the impressive win over Barcelona last weekend. Los Ches will be eying up that Champions League spot and we believe that the home side will record a victory in a relatively tight game. The other bet we are backing is the under 2.5 goals scored, as neither side are that prolific. Celta are lacking confidence in front of goal and Valencia are fairly solid defensively at the Mestalla.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 4/6 and/or the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
