Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (19/4) v Manchester City (1/2)

We are backing the away win

When: Sunday 2nd February 2020, Kick-off 4:30 PM

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham host Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as the home side look to stay in contention for a Champions League spot this season.

Tottenham

Spurs are enduring a highly inconsistent campaign. The team from north London are struggling to finish in the Premier League’s top-four for the first time in a long while. Jose Mourinho’s team heads into this weekend’s fixtures six points outside the Champions League spots.

The home side needs to find form pretty quickly to have any chance of making the top-four this season. A 2-1 win over Norwich last time out in the Premier League arguably only papered over the cracks in north London. The win ended a four-game winless streak for Spurs in English top-flight.

Spurs have been busy in the transfer market making late moves, bringing in Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven, while making Giovani Lo Celso’s loan deal permanent. Midfielder Christian Eriksen and Kyle Walker-Peters have also left the club on a permanent and loan basis respectively.

Tottenham’s home form particularly has been inconsistent of late, as Mourinho’s team has won four of their last eight league matches on home soil. Spurs have been relatively prolific in the Premier League on home soil of late, scoring 12 times in their last six outings.

Manchester City

On Wednesday night City suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. However, the Citizens booked their place at Wembley anyway, winning the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Pep Guardiola’s team have been in decent form of late in the Premier League, winning four of their last five league matches, while remaining unbeaten.

Despite that recent run of form, the reigning champions are still a massive 19 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool at the top of the table. Retaining their crown now looks beyond them, but Guardiola and his team will keep going in the vein hope that Jurgen Klopp’s team produces an incredible collapse.

Despite a relatively inconsistent recent run of form in the Premier League, the visitors have still remained prolific of late, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last eight league outings.

The visitors recent away form has been strong, as the Citizens have won four of their last five Premier League matches on their travels. Their ability to score goals has also been highly evident of late away from home, as City has scored at least two goals in five of their last six away matches.

Conclusion

Tottenham are in desperate need of a victory to maintain their challenge for a top-four spot, which could be hard with so much competition. City will feel the title is gone. However, Guardiola will not let his players get complacent, so we are backing the away win. We are also backing the over 3.5 goals, as City are lethal in attack and can be leaky in defence.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 1/2 and/or the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
