Prediction and odds for the game: Atalanta (3/4) v Roma (14/5)

We are backing the home win

When: Saturday 15th February 2020, Kick-off 7:45 PM

Where: Gewiss Stadium

On Saturday night, Atalanta host Roma at the Gewiss Stadium in a game that could have big implications on who qualify for the Champions League from Serie A.

Atalanta

The Nerazzurri currently occupy the final Champions League spot in the Italian top-flight. However, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team are just three points clear of the fifth-place visitors. A win could mean a big step towards consolidating their top-four position in Serie A.

Atalanta’s recent form has not been highly consistent of late. However, after a 2-1 win at Fiorentina last time out, the Nerazzurri are unbeaten in three league games, having recorded two wins and a draw.

The win over the Viola saw Gasperini’s team score at least two goals for a third straight league game. The Nerazzurri’s recent scoring prowess is not surprising, as Atalanta are the top goalscorers in Serie A.

The home side’s recent home record is highly inconsistent, as they have won just three of their last seven matches in the Italian top-flight. The Nerazzurri have been prolific on home soil of late in Serie A, scoring at least twice in 11 of their last 14 matches.

Roma

This is a potentially vital game for the Giallorossi in their chances of finishing in the Champions League spots. Paulo Fonseca’s team have struggled for results in recent weeks, as the visitors have won just once in their last six Serie A games. In fact, the Giallorossi have suffered four losses in their last six outings in the Italian top-flight.

The visitors have been generous to opposition teams of late, as they have conceded at least twice in all four of those recent defeats. Roma’s poor defensive displays have contributed to both teams scoring in seven of their last eight matches in Serie A.

Roma have an inconsistent away record in Serie A in recent months, although they have won three of their last five league matches on their travels. However, a 4-2 defeat at Sassuolo in their last away game ended a four-game unbeaten run on their travels in the Italian top-flight.

The Giallorossi have been highly prolific of late on their travels in Serie A, scoring twice or more in four of their last five matches in the Italian top-flight. Their goalscoring prowess has contributed to four of their last five league matches producing over 3.5 goals.

Conclusion

This has the potential to be one of the most entertaining games of the European football weekend. We are backing Atalanta to record a narrow win, with main reason being that Roma’s form has been so poor of late. We are also backing the over 3.5 goals, as both teams have been prolific in front of goal of late.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 3/4 and/or the over 3.5 goals scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
