Prediction and odds for the game: Real Madrid (6/5) v Barcelona (19/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5

When: Sunday 1st March 2020, Kick-off 8 PM

Where: The Santiago Bernabeu

On Sunday night, two of the world’s biggest football teams clash at the Bernabeu, as Real Madrid host Barcelona in El Clasico. As is now the custom, the clash could have big implications on the destination of the Spanish title.

Real Madrid

The home side has hit a slight dip in form in La Liga of late, as Zinedine Zidane’s team has picked up just a point from their last two league matches against Celta Vigo and Levante. The dip in form has seen Barcelona leapfrog Los Blancos into top spot in La Liga. The capital giants also suffered a midweek 2-1 defeat against Manchester City on home soil in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Despite their recent blip in the Spanish top-flight, the home team still maintain a strong home record in La Liga. The team from the Spanish capital are undefeated in their last 12 home games in the Spanish top-flight, having recorded a creditable eight wins. Los Blancos have also remained prolific on home soil in La Liga, scoring at least twice in eight of their last 11 matches at the Bernabeu in the Spanish top-flight.

A major negative for Zidane’s team heading into this game is that they have failed to beat Barcelona in the last seven meetings in all competitions.

Barcelona

The Catalan giants head into this clash in good form in La Liga of late. Quique Setien’s team have won their last four matches in the Spanish top-flight, scoring at least twice in all four wins. Last time out in La Liga, the visitors recorded a 5-0 win over Eibar, with Lionel Messi ending his short goal drought in empathic style by scoring four times. The game saw the Blaugrana keep their first clean sheet in five La Liga matches. The recent good form has been enough to move Barcelona two points clear of their big rivals at the business end of La Liga.

The Catalan giants have not been over convincing on their travels of late in La Liga. In fact, a 3-2 win at Real Betis in their last away game in the Spanish top-flight ended a three-game winless run on their travels in La Liga. Barcelona have been poor defensively in recent away games, conceding at least two goals in five of their last matches on the road in the Spanish top-flight.

Conclusion

There is not much between these two teams. Barcelona have the better league form going into this game, but Real Madrid have the home advantage which can be massive in El Clasico. We are going to sit on the fence here and back the draw. These games can be unpredictable, so we are also going to take a punt on under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/10.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 15/4 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
