Prediction and odds for the game: Freiburg (23/20) v Werder Bremen (11/5)

We are backing the home win

When: Saturday, 23rd May 2020, Kick-off 14:30

Where: The Schwarzwald-Stadion

On Saturday afternoon, Freiburg host Werder Bremen at the Schwarzwald Stadion, as the home side look to enhance their European hopes, while the visitors look for points to aid their fight against relegation.

Freiburg

The home side are in the battle for a top-six spot, currently just two points behind Wolfsburg who occupy the last European spot in the Bundesliga table.

Christian Streich’s team have been in inconsistent form in the German top-flight, winning just two of their last eight league matches. However, a 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig last time out was a creditable result. The draw means the home team has taken four points from their last two league outings. Their recent Bundesliga matches have not been the best for goals, as five of Freiburg’s last six league matches have produced under 2.5 goals.

Freiburg’s recent home form in the German top-flight has not been great. However, a record of five wins from their last eight games is certainly not woeful either. Their recent matches on home soil in the Bundesliga have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven outings.

The home side have found Werder difficult opponents of late, as they have won just one of the last seven games between the two teams.

Werder Bremen

The visitors are in a whole heap of trouble in the Bundesliga. Werder are 17th place in the German top-flight table, five points behind Fortuna Dusseldorf who occupy the relegation play-off spot in the table.

A 4-1 home defeat against Bayer Leverkusen last time out means Werder have failed to win in seven league matches while suffering ten defeats in their last 12 outings in the German top-flight. The result against Leipzig also means that the visitors have conceded at least two goals in their last seven league outings. That stat is no surprise, as Werder has conceded more goals than other team in the Bundesliga this season.

Given their league position and recent results, it is also no surprise that Werder’s recent away form has not been great. Florian Kohfeldt’s team have lost four of their last six league matches. They have also conceded at least twice in nine of their last 11 matches on the road.

Werder may take heart from their good recent record against Freiburg. However, history may not be much use to them in the Black Forest.

Conclusion

History may be on the side of the visitors, but we believe that Freiburg will just about come out on top in this clash. They have not been ultra-consistent, but they should have enough quality to see off Werder Bremen in a high-scoring encounter.

Verdict: We are backing over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 23/20 and/or the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All bets are taken from Bet365).
