Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (7/2) v Wolves (4/5)

We are backing the away win

When: Saturday, 27th June 2020, Kick-off 12:30

Where: Villa Park

On Saturday afternoon, Aston Villa and Wolves go head-to-head at Villa Park, in a potentially massive Midlands derby.

Aston Villa

Dean Smith’s team are only in the bottom three on goal difference, so they are still very much alive and kicking in the fight for Premier League survival. A 1-1 draw at Newcastle last time out was not a terrible result. However, the draw means that the visitors have failed to win in their previous seven top-flight matches, while suffering five defeats.

Defensive problems have been at the heart of the Villans recent problems in the top-flight, as they have conceded at least twice in five of their previous seven matches in the Premier League.

Villa Park has offered the Villans very little advantage of late in the top-flight. They have won just once in five league matches on home soil, suffering three defeats. In their last game on home soil, the home side suffered a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea.

Villa have a mixed recent record against their Midlands rivals of late, as they have won three of the previous nine meetings between the pair.

Wolves

While the home side are just looking for survival, Wolves are still very much in the race for the Champions League spots this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are level with Manchester United, who occupy the final Champions League spot, but trail the Red Devils by virtue of inferior goal difference.

The visitors are seven games unbeaten in the Premier League, having won four of their last five games in the top-flight. They have won both of their games since the restart, beating West Ham and last time out Bournemouth.

An improvement in defensive performances has been a big factor in their recent good results, as the visitors have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven league games.

Mexican forward Raul Jimenez has scored in his last two league appearances for Wolves, while winger Adama Traore has also produced assists in his last two Premier League games.

Wolves have been strong on their travels of late in the top-flight, as they are undefeated in their last four away games in the league, having recorded three wins. They have scored at least twice in all three of their recent victories.

Conclusion

Villa have worked hard in their last two games, but have lacked quality. However, Wolves have lived up to their tag as Champions League challengers. We are backing the visitors to pull off a victory in a high-scoring encounter, so we are also backing over 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 4/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
