Prediction and odds for the game: AC Milan (17/10) v Roma (6/4)

We are backing the away win

When: Sunday, 28th June 2020, Kick-off 16:15

Where: The San Siro

On Sunday afternoon, AC Milan host Roma at the San Siro in Serie A, in a game that could be vital in the race for European qualification for next season.

AC Milan

With 11 league games remaining, the Rossoneri are in the Europa League play-off qualification spot. However, Stefano Pioli’s team are just three points adrift of Napoli, who occupy the automatic Europa League spots.

This season has been another rollercoaster ride for Milan fans. Their team’s recent league form could not have been more inconsistent, as they have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six matches in Serie A. Last time out in the Italian top-flight they recorded a 4-1 win at Lecce. The result means that both teams have scored in five of their last six league matches.

Milan have been tough opponents to beat on home soil in Serie A of late, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last seven league matches at the San Siro. A 2-1 defeat by Genoa in their last home game in the league ended a six-game unbeaten home run for the Rossoneri. Their recent home matches in the top-flight have been low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their previous seven outings.

Roma

The Giallorossi are still in contention for a Champions League spot for next season. However, they are currently six points behind in-form Atalanta, who occupy fourth spot in Serie A.

Paolo Fonseca’s team have recorded three straight wins in the league, beating Lecce Cagliari and Sampdoria. The visitors have been prolific in each win scoring at least two goals in each win. They have now scored at least two goals in five of their last six matches in the Italian top-flight. Only the top-four teams in the league have scored more Serie A goals this season than the team from Rome.

Roma’s inconsistency away from home may prove the fatal blow to their top-four hopes, as they have won three and lost two of their previous five away games in the Italian top-flight. The visitor’s recent away matches have been good for goals, as their last five league matches on their travels have produced over 2.5 goals.

The Giallorossi have won on three of their last four visits to the San Siro to face Milan. However, they did lose on their last visit to Milan.

Conclusion

Both teams have had relatively inconsistent runs of league form of late. However, with three straight league wins heading into this clash, we are backing the away win. We also believe it could be a high-scoring encounter, so we are backing over 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 6/4 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
