Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (6/4) v Leicester (7/4)

We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10

When: Wednesday, 1st July 2020, Kick-off 18:00

Where: Goodison Park

On Wednesday evening, Everton host Leicester City at Goodison Park in the Premier League, as the visitors look to seal a place in next season’s Champions League.

Everton

The Toffees have made a solid return to action in the Premier League after the enforced break by taking four points from a possible six in games against Liverpool and last time Norwich. Carlo Ancelotti’s team have looked very strong defensive since the return, something that was certainly not the case earlier in the season.

Everton remain in the bottom half of the table despite that win last time out. However, if results go their way in the latest round of fixtures, they could be just outside the European qualification spots in the Premier League.

The Toffees are no pushovers at Goodison Park, as the Merseysider’s are unbeaten in their previous eight Premier League matches on home soil, recording four wins and four draws. That run of games included home games against Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Their recent home games in the league have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their previous eight matches.

Leicester

The Foxes have played just once since the return of top-flight action, as they drew 1-1 against relegation-threatened Watford. The draw means that Brendan Rodgers team has won just once in their previous seven Premier League games

The recent poor run of league form has seen the chasing pack gain ground on the third-place Foxes in the chase for the lucrative Champions League spots. Fourth place Chelsea are just a point behind the visitors, while fifth-place Wolves just two points adrift of their Midland rivals.

The visitors cannot afford any complacency for the rest of the Premier League campaign, as they will not want all their hard work done earlier in the season to go to waste.

Like their hosts, the Foxes recent league games have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six top-flight games. The fact that Leicester have failed to score in four of their previous six league matches has been a big factor in those low-scoring matches.

Leicester have been poor on their travels of late, failing to win in their last four league matches away from home.

Conclusion

Time on the training pitch has allowed home head coach Ancelotti time to work on his team’s defensive structure. From the two games since the break, the work seems to have paid off. They are also hard to beat on home soil. Leicester does not head into this game in the best of form or spirits. We are backing the draw and under 2.5 goals, due to both teams being involved in relatively low-scoring games of late.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
