Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (11/10) v Everton (12/5)

We fancy the away win in this clash

When: Monday, 6th July 2020, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Monday night, two teams looking to claim a European spot from the Premier League for next season, Tottenham and Everton meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham

It is difficult to gauge Tottenham’s progress under Jose Mourinho, as they have been highly inconsistent in recent months. Since the return to action, they have drawn with Manchester United, beaten West Ham and last time out suffered a 3-1 defeat against Sheffield United. You can’t get more inconsistent than their results in the three post-break matches.

The recent mixed run has even put doubt over the team from north London making the Europa League next season, let alone the Champions League. Europe’s elite competition now looks way out of reach for Mourinho’s team. They are now ten points adrift of Manchester United, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

Even their recent home form has been patchy in the Premier League, with just three wins from the last seven outings. There is one positive stat for Tottenham heading into this game in the fact they are unbeaten in 14 meetings with the Merseysider’s. On current form that record looks in major jeopardy.

Everton

The current Toffees team look unrecognisable from the team that dropped into the relegation zone under previous head coach Marco Silva. His replacement highly experienced and successful Carlo Ancelotti has turned things around. If the league would have started after the Italian’s appointment, the Merseysider’s would be challenging for the Champions League spots.

The visitors have overcome a slight blip pre-break to take seven points from games against Liverpool, Norwich and Leicester. The good run of results means that Everton are now just a point behind Tottenham in the top-flight table.

A big factor in the recent turnaround for Ancelotti’s team has been their defensive displays. Since the return of league action, the Toffees have conceded just once, which was a slightly bizarre Kelechi Iheanacho goal that went in off the Nigerian international’s face. Other than that, the Merseysider’s have looked solid in defence.

Everton have been inconsistent of late on their travels, while they have failed to win in nine trips to Tottenham. However, their recent upturn in form and the positive atmosphere around the club may be enough to negate those negative factors.

Conclusion

If Everton were heading to Tottenham in normal circumstances, then it would be difficult to predict an away win. However, home advantage has gone out of the window without fans, so we are predicting an away win. If they are to record a victory in north London, then front pair Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison could play key roles. The latter is a fitness doubt, but we are backing Calvert-Lewin to be anytime goalscorer to end his recent goal drought.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 12/5 and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 21/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
