Prediction and odds for the game: Sheffield United (14/5) v Wolves (11/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 11/5

When: Wednesday, 8th July 2020, Kick-off 18:00

Where: Bramall Lane

On Wednesday evening, Sheffield United host Wolves at Bramall Lane in the Premier League, in a massive game for both teams’ chances of booking their place in Europe for next season.

Sheffield United

A poor return to action in their first few games after the restart, the Blades got back to winning ways in a 3-1 home win over rivals for a European spot Tottenham. Chris Wilder’s team followed that up with a 1-1 draw at Burnley last time out.

The return of four points from their last two league outings has the Yorkshire outfit firmly in the race for a European spot this season. A victory for the home side in this clash would move them to within a point of the sixth-placed visitors.

The Blades recent home form has played a crucial role in their successful season so far in the Premier League. They are currently unbeaten in four home matches, having recorded three wins in the process. Their recent home games have certainly not been goal fests in the English top-flight, as seven of their last nine league matches at Bramall Lane have produced under 2.5 goals.

Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team were looking good for booking a spot in the Champions League for next season after a good return to action after the break. However, a surprise 2-0 home defeat by Arsenal last time out left the visitors three points behind fifth-place Manchester United, with a vastly inferior goal difference.

The defeat against the Gunners ended a three-game winning run for the team from the Midlands in the top-flight, while also ending an eight-match unbeaten run in the Premier League for Nuno’s team.

The visitors will be looking to return to a defensive solidity that had brought them seven clean sheets in their previous eight games before the loss to Mikel Arteta’s team.

Wolves will be looking to maintain a very good recent away record in the Premier League in Yorkshire. They are unbeaten in their last five away games in the top-flight, having recorded four wins. Their recent away matches have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four matches on the road.

Conclusion

Both teams look good for European qualification for next season. Wolves now need the teams above them to slip up to claim a Champions League spot for next season. This could be a tight, low-scoring clash. Although the Blades early-season defensive solidity has faded slightly of late, the two bets we are backing are the draw and under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 11/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/2. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
