Prediction and odds for the game: Bournemouth (17/4) v Tottenham (4/6)
We are backing the away win
When: Thursday, 9th July 2020, Kick-off 18:00
Where: The Vitality Stadium
On Thursday evening, struggling Bournemouth host Tottenham at the Vitality Stadium, as the Cherries look to pick up points in the fight for survival.
Eddie Howe’s team have been truly woeful in recent games and on current form look set for relegation to the Championship. The team from the south coast are only one point from safety, but such is their lack of confidence it is hard to see where their next point is coming from.
The Cherries head into this clash on the back of an eight-game winless run in the English top-flight, including suffering seven defeats. A 5-2 mauling at Manchester United in their last match illustrated where their biggest problem lied, their woeful defence. Bournemouth have now conceded at least twice in seven of their last eight games, which has proven a big factor in that poor recent run of league form.
Even home advantage has done nothing for the Cherries of late, as Howe’s team has suffered defeat in seven of their last ten league games on home soil, winning just twice in the run. Unsurprisingly, considering their recent defensive record, Bournemouth have failed to keep a clean sheet in ten home games in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho’s team got back to winning ways with a highly unconvincing 1-0 home win over a lacklustre Everton on Monday night. Without a fortunate own goal from Michael Keane, the game would likely have ended in a stalemate. The victory was only their second in seven Premier League games. Everybody connected with the club will hope it kick-starts Spurs form.
The team from north London currently occupy eighth place in the table, which under current circumstances would be enough for Europa League football for next season. However, they are now eight points off the Champions League qualification berths in the Premier League.
Spurs recent league matches have exactly been goal fests, with four of their last five top-flight games producing under 2.5 goals. Their two leading scorers Harry Kane and Heung Min-Son have scored just 22 goals between them. Although both players did miss some games through injury just before the suspension of football.
Tottenham will need to improve their away record if they are to enjoy a strong end to the current campaign. The team from north London have won just once in their last seven league matches on their travels. One clean sheet in 23 away games in the top-flight is a horrendous statistic for Mourinho’s team.
Bournemouth have been woeful of late, but Tottenham have not exactly been pulling up many trees either. We are going with an away win simply based on the Cherries lack of confidence and poor defensive displays of late. We are also backing both teams to score. The Cherries are poor at the back and Tottenham can’t seem to keep clean sheets on their travels.
Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 4/6 and/or both teams to score at odds of 7/10 (All odds are taken from Bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
