Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (13/8) v Arsenal (17/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5

When: Sunday, 12th July 2020, Kick-off 16:30

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham and Arsenal go head-to-head in a Premier League north London derby, which could have a big say in who books a place in the Europa League next season.

Tottenham

The home side has been highly inconsistent in the Premier League for much of the campaign. A run of just two wins since the restart has left Jose Mourinho’s team languishing in ninth-place in the top-flight table. However, they are only a point behind Sunday’s eighth-place opponents.

With a top-eight finish likely to be good enough for European football next season, this clash could be pivotal in both teams hopes of making the Europa League for season 2020/21.

Missing out on European action completely this season may have been unthinkable this season for Spurs after they reached last seasons Champions League final.

The home team’s recent league matches have not offered great entertainment value of late in the Premier League of late, as five of their last six matches have produced under 2.5 goals.

Spurs have a decent recent home record in the top-flight, as they have won four of their previous six matches while losing just once in the run.

Arsenal

Things are certainly looking more positive at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners head into this game four games undefeated in the English top-flight. A 1-1 draw at home against Leicester last time out ended a promising three-match winning run in the Premier League for Arteta’s team. The draw also ended a prolific run of form in front of goal for Arsenal, as they had scored at least two goals in their previous three wins.

If results go for them in gameweek 35, the Gunners could end the weekend in the Premier League’s top-six. A top-six finish would not be a terrible finish this season considering that the visitors have endured such an inconsistent league campaign.

It seems that Arsenal have rediscovered form on their travels in top-flight, winning at Southampton and Wolves in their previous two away games. However, those two wins followed a seven-match winless run in the Premier League away from home for the Gunners.

The visitors most recent away games in the English top-flight have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine matches on the road.

Conclusion

This is a big clash for these two rivals. While the Europa League is neither team’s long-term target, both would prefer to be playing in Europe’s secondary competition than not next season.

Arsenal are certainly in the better form, but there are still doubts about their away form. Spurs are usually strong on home soil too, which is why we are backing the draw. We are also backing under 2.5 goals scored, as five of the last seven meetings have been low-scoring, tight affairs between these two teams.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
