Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (evens) v Aston Villa (11/4)

We are backing the home win

When: Thursday, 16th July 2020, Kick-off 18:00

Where: Goodison Park

On Thursday evening, Aston Villa will look to pick up three valuable points as they travel to face Everton at Goodison Park.

Everton

The Toffees are a team that already look to be on their summer holidays. Carlo Ancelotti’s team has struggled for results of late failing to win in their previous three top-flight games while suffering defeats at Tottenham and Wolves in the process.

The Merseysider’s have been bereft of any attacking threat in their recent matches. Veteran head coach Ancelotti looks set to make some big changes to his squad in the summer, but in the meantime, the Italian could shake up his lacklustre starting line-up.

The recent poor results have killed off any hopes of the Toffees gaining a place in next season’s Europa League. However, the players will surely want to prove to their highly-rated head coach that they have the required quality to stay at the club next season.

One thing that has remained constantly positive of late for Everton is their ability to avoid defeat at Goodison Park. They are currently ten league games unbeaten on home soil in the English top-flight. The Toffees have also won their last three home matches against Villa on home soil in all competitions.

Aston Villa

Things are now looking desperate for the Villans at the bottom end of the top-flight table. Dean Smith’s team are now four points from safety with just three league matches remaining.

A 2-0 home victory over Crystal Palace may just be too little too late for the team from the Midlands in the fight for survival. The win over Palace ended a ten-game winless run in the top-flight for Villa. The visitors had also eight of those ten league matches too.

Problems at both ends of the pitch have hampered Villa’s chances of staying in the top-flight. They have failed to score in three of their last four league outing, while only bottom club Norwich have conceded more top-flight goals this season.

Villa have won just once in their last 13 away games in the Premier League, suffering defeat in four of their previous five matches on their travels. Their leaky defence has been on full display of late on the road, as they have conceded at least two goals in four of their last five away matches.

Conclusion

Everton have been woeful of late, while before the Palace game Villa looked dead and buried. We are backing the home win in this game, as Everton are relatively solid at Goodison, while Villa are terrible travellers. We are also backing both teams to score, as both teams have been poor in defence of late.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at evens and/or both teams to score at odds of 3/4 (All odds are taken from Bet365).
