Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (23/10) v Arsenal (11/10)

We are backing the away win

When: Tuesday, 21st July 2020, Kick-off 20:15

Where: Villa Park

On Tuesday night, Aston Villa face a crucial home game against Arsenal in the Premier League, as the visitors look to keep their bid for survival alive.

Aston Villa

Dean Smith’s side has just two league games remaining and find themselves three points from safety. Their nearest rivals, 17th place Watford face Manchester City on Tuesday in the earlier kick-off. Villa will be hoping that the Citizens will be hurting from their weekend FA Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal.

The scenario is simple for Villa: They must not lose this game. If Watford picks up a win from their game against Pep Guardiola’s team, that will mean that Villa must win their two remaining league games. The Villans face a trip to West Ham on the final day of the season.

Villa could have been in a far stronger position had they not conceded a late goal to draw 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park. The goal may just prove decisive in the fight for survival.

A poor recent home record has proven a major Achilles heel for Villa. Just one league win in their previous six matches at Villa Park illustrates the home sides struggle for victories on their own patch.

Arsenal

The visitors head into this game on the back of a Premier League win over Liverpool and a 2-0 defeat of Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals. The FA Cup is the only silverware left on offer for the Gunners, but they can still finish in the top seven of the Premier League.

They are currently three points shy of Wolves, who occupy seventh spot in the table. A top-seven spot will be enough for European action next season. However, that is only if Arsenal lose the FA Cup final to Chelsea. If Mikel Arteta’s team beating London rivals Chelsea in the final, the team that finishes in seventh place will miss out on Europe.

Arsenal’s recent league form has been pretty strong, as the visitors have claimed four wins from their previous six outings in the English top-flight. Their only defeat in the run was a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham in the north London derby.

The Gunners recent away record in the top-flight has not been great, as they have won just two of their previous ten league matches on their travels. However, those wins have been in their last three away matches in the top-flight.

Conclusion

Villa are desperate for points and have produced some solid displays of late. Arsenal will be on a high after two very impressive results, which is why we are backing the away win. We also think there will be goals in this clash, so we are backing over 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the away victory at odds of 11/10 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
