Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (17/20) v Wolves (3/1)

We are backing Raul Jimenez to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 15/8

When: Sunday, 26th July 2020, Kick-off 16:00

Where: Stamford Bridge

On Sunday afternoon, Chelsea host Wolves at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, as the hosts look to seal a place in next seasons Champions League.

Chelsea

The scenario is simple for the Blues; if they beat Wolves, they will be playing Champions League football in season 2020/21. A draw would also be enough if rivals Leicester and Manchester United draw in their encounter at the King Power Stadium. Chelsea are currently fourth-place, below United because of inferior goal difference and just a point ahead of the Foxes.

Chelsea’s recent form could not have been more inconsistent than in the recent weeks, as they have claimed three victories and suffered three defeats from their last six outings in the Premier League. Last time out they suffered a 5-3 defeat at champions Liverpool.

That patchy recent results have come away from home. Chelsea’s home form has however been strong, as they have won their previous five home matches in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge. Effective displays at both ends of the pitch have contributed massively to the recent good home form. The Blues have scored at least twice in four of their previous five home games while keeping clean sheets in three of their last four league matches on home soil.

Wolves

The visitors have enjoyed another solid Premier League campaign. The team from the Midlands are currently sixth-place in the table and will book their place in the Europa League by bettering Tottenham’s result on the last day of the season. However, even if results go against them on Sunday, Nuno’s team would still qualify for the Europa League if Chelsea wins the FA Cup.

Wolves are undefeated in three Premier League games heading into this clash, although they have won just two of their previous five matches in the English top-flight. Their recent league games have been tight affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine matches in the Premier League.

The visitors have taken just a point from their previous two away matches at Sheffield United and Burnley. Just four wins from their previous nine away games in the English top-flight illustrates their inconsistency on the road of late.

Conclusion

This is a big game in terms of both teams’ ambitions for the season. We are backing the home side to record a narrow win. It will not be an easy game though as a very impressive Wolves team. The other bet we are backing is Raul Jimenez as an anytime goalscorer. The Mexican has enjoyed another fruitful campaign and the Blues remain suspect in defence.

Verdict: We are back Raul Jimenez as an anytime goalscorer at odds of 15/8 and/or the home win at odds of 17/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
