Prediction and odds for the game: Bayern Munich (4/11) v Chelsea (13/2)

We are backing Robert Lewandowski to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 1/3

When: Saturday, 8th August 2020, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Allianz Stadium

On Saturday night, Bayern Munich host Chelsea at the Allianz Stadium, in the Champions League last-16 second leg. The home team head into this clash with a 3-0 victory from the first-leg at Stamford Bridge.

Bayern Munich

The German giants finished last season in fantastic form, winning their final 17 matches in all competitions. Hansi Flick coasted to their eighth straight Bundesliga title, despite an unconvincing start to the campaign under now ex-head coach Niko Kovac.

The Bavarian giants are also now one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season. The first leg victory in the English capital has given the German giants a major chance to make it through to the last eight in quite comfortable fashion.

Bayern have been impressive in the Champions League this season, winning all seven of their games in Europe’s elite competition, while finding the net on at least two occasions in all seven victories.

Ace predator Robert Lewandowski has been a big player in the German team’s attacking threat this season in this competition, having scored 11 goals. The Polish star is the Champions League’s top scorer in season 2019/20. However, Bayern’s attacking midfielder Serge Gnabry is joint-third in the rankings for goals in the competition, with only Lewandowski and Dortmund starlet Erling Haaland bettering Gnabry’s tally of six goals this season.

Chelsea

Overall, this season has been a very solid one for Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard in his debut season in the blues dugout. Not only did the team from south west London finish in the Premier League top-four, but they also made it to the FA Cup final, where they suffered defeat against capital rivals Arsenal.

The aim for the Blues this season in the Champions League was making it out of the group stage, as they were hampered by a transfer ban last summer. Even if they were to exit the competition at this stage, this season will have to be considered a relative success considering the circumstances.

The first leg defeat against Bayern ended a five-game unbeaten run for Chelsea in the Champions League, while ending a prolific run of form in front of goal, as the visitors had scored at least twice in their previous three European outings.

The absence of the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Willian and Pedro will only make this fixture more difficult for the visitors, who head into as major underdogs to progress.

Conclusion

The home win offers very little value in this match, as we feel that Bayern will come out on top. Instead, we will look at the goals market for our recommended bets. One obvious one looks to be Robert Lewandowski to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 1/3. Considering the striker’s form this season, that is not terrible odds. The other bet we are recommending is Bayern to win and Chelsea not to score, which offers good value due to Bayern’s stellar record at the Allianz Arena.

Verdict: We are backing Bayern to win to nil at odds of 13/8 and/or Robert Lewandowski to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 1/3. (All odds are taken from bet365).
