When: Monday, 10th August 2020, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The RheinEnergieStadion

On Monday night, Manchester United and FC Copenhagen go head-to-head in Koln in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Unlikely in previous rounds, this game will be decided on a one-off basis, instead of over two legs.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have enjoyed a successful campaign this season in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full season in charge of the men from Manchester. They finished in the top four of the Premier League and are the favourites to win the Europa League, which would be a bonus for United.

Solskjaer’s team have been difficult to beat in recent matches, as they have suffered just one defeat in 23 games in all competitions. They have also been difficult to defeat in the Europa League, having suffered defeat in just one of their previous 21 outings in Europe’s secondary competition.

United have a very good recent record in this competition too, winning four of the last five games, while scoring at least two goals in four of their last five European matches. They recorded a 7-1 aggregate hammering of LASK in the last-16 to coast into the last-eight of the competition.

The Red Devils rested several key players in the second leg of the last round. However, head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to pick his strongest line-up for this clash.

FC Copenhagen

The Danish team have been one of the surprise packages in the Europa League this season. Stale Solbakken team have suffered just two defeats in their last ten matches in the Europa League. Despite being hard to defeat, Copenhagen have won just two of their previous five games in European football’s secondary competition.

Some will claim that they have had relatively easy ties, eliminating Celtic and last time out Turkish team Istanbul Basaksehir. Copenhagen suffered a 1-0 first-leg defeat against the latter but roared back by recording a 3-0 home win in their last European outing to book their place in the last-eight. Highly-rated young forward Jonas Wind grabbed a brace last time out, while also producing an assist.

Manchester United are certainly a step-up in quality from their previous opponents in the competition. However, Copenhagen have a history of beating the Red Devils in Europe, having beaten United 1-0 in the Champions League group stage back in 2006. Current head coach Solbakken was also in charge for that shock victory. The 52-year-old has since managed Koln and Wolves before a return to the Danish capital in 2013.

Conclusion

Manchester United are clear favourites for this clash, but with this being a one-off tie there is always the chance that the Danish side could cause a shock. However, we do not believe that will happen. The United win offers no value though.

We expect this game to be relatively low-scoring and are backing both teams to score, as United are prolific, while Copenhagen have failed to score in just two of their last ten European matches. The other enticing is Jonas Wind to be an anytime goalscorer, as he looked in good form last time out.

Verdict: We are backing both teams to score at odds of 11/10 and/or Jonas Wind to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/2. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
