Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (5/6) v Everton (10/3)
We are backing the home win
When: Sunday, 13th September 2020, Kick-off 16:30
Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham host Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League, as both teams enter the new campaign in good spirits.
Tottenham
This will be Jose Mourinho’s first full season in charge of the north London club having arrived in November 2019 to replace Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs head coach. Despite a catalogue of injury problems last season, Mourinho still guided his team to a sixth-place finish.
Tottenham have moved to add quality to their squad by signing Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton and right wing-back Matt Doherty from Wolves. They have also added the experience of former Manchester City and England stopper Joe Hart to their goalkeeping ranks.
Spurs late-season form was good, as they mounted a six-match undefeated run at the end of the season, which saw them claim four victories. Their final league games of the league campaign were relatively high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four matches in the Premier League.
The home team has won six of their previous eight home games in the English top-flight. They have now lost against the visitors on home soil since 2009. In fact, Tottenham are undefeated against Everton in 15 matches in all competitions.
Everton
The visitors will be hoping for much better things in the season to come after a woeful campaign last season in the Premier League. Like Mourinho, Everton head coach Carlo Ancelotti took over in November 2019, replacing Marco Silva with the Merseysider’s languishing at the wrong end of the table.
They enjoyed a slight turnaround in fortunes after the Italian’s appointment. However, towards the end of the campaign, the visitors form dipped again, as won just once in their last six Premier Leagues outings. There were clear problems in the centre of midfield during much of last season.
The Merseysider’s look to have upgraded their midfield options immensely with the signings of midfield trio Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and of course James Rodriguez. The signing of the latter has already seen the Toffees profile rise incredibly.
All three new signings could make their Everton debuts in this clash, although James Rodriguez has not featured in any pre-season games for Toffees or former club Real Madrid.
Conclusion
Tottenham have become one of Everton’s bogey teams in recent Premier League history. We are predicting that despite the visitor’s new high-profile signings, that Tottenham will once again defeat the Merseysider’s by a narrow margin. The other bet we are predicting is over 2.5 goals scored, as both teams have talented players in attack, even if James Rodriguez does not start for the visitors.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 5/6 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
