Prediction and odds for the game: Fulham (19/10) vs Aston Villa (6/4)

We are backing Aleksandar Mitrovic to be an anytime scorer at odds of 13/10

When: Monday, 28th September 2020, Kick-off 17:45

Where: Craven Cottage

On Monday evening, Fulham host Aston Villa at Craven Cottage, as the home team looks to pick up their first point of the Premier League campaign.

Fulham

The Cottagers have had a tough start to their Premier League return, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal before a 4-3 defeat against Leeds United. However, Scott Parker’s team recorded a 2-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The home side will be hoping that the midweek win will raise spirits at the capital club.

They need that lift in spirits, considering their poor league start. The Cottagers have now suffered four straight defeats in the Premier League dating back to their previous spell in the English top-flight. A lack of goals has been a big factor in those league defeats, as the Cottagers have now failed to score in three of their previous four matches.

Fulham have a poor recent home record in the top-flight, winning just two of their previous eight league games at Craven Cottage while suffering six defeats and conceding at least two goals in all of the six defeats.

Aston Villa

The Villans have made a positive start to the new campaign. Dean Smith’s team have beaten Burton Albion and Bristol City in Carabao Cup, with a 1-0 home win over Sheffield United in the Premier League. The victory over the Blades last time out in the league means that the visitors are unbeaten in five Premier League games dating back to last season.

Villa’s recent top-flight games have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine outings, including in the Villans last five league matches.

The team from the Midlands have to win in their previous eight away games in the Premier League, although they have picked up points in three of their last four league games on their travels. Their recent matches on their travels have been low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their previous seven matches on their travels, including their last four outings.

Conclusion

This should be a relatively close game, which both teams will believe is highly winnable. We are avoiding the winner market, though and focussing on our favourite goalscoring markets. One bet that stands out to us is Aleksandar Mitrovic to be an anytime goalscorer.

The Serbian is without a doubt the Cottagers biggest attacking threat and is likely to score goals this season. The other bet we are recommending is both teams to score, as neither team are great in defence and the likes of Mitrovic and Villa striker Ollie Watkins can exploit any defensive weaknesses in the opposition defence.

Verdict: We are backing Aleksandar Mitrovic to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 13/10 and/or both teams to score at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
