Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (23/20) v Brighton (21/10)
We are backing the home win
When: Saturday, 21st November 2020, Kick-off 15:00
Where: Villa Park
On Saturday afternoon, Aston Villa host Brighton at Villa Park, as the Villans look to continue their good form in the Premier League.
The team from the English Midlands have been one of the surprise packages in the Premier League this season. The Villans are sixth place in the English top-flight table, just three points behind league leaders Leicester. However, Dean Smith’s team have a game in hand on their Midlands rivals.
Last time out in the Premier League, Villa recorded a 3-0 win at Arsenal. The victory actually ended a mini two-game losing run for the home team in the English top-flight. The game was another high-scoring encounter for Villa, as five of their previous six league matches have produced over 2.5 goals.
Villa have suffered defeat in their last two home matches in the top-flight. They have also conceded at least two goals in their previous three Premier League matches at Villa Park. Before the twin defeats, Smith’s team had recorded four straight home league wins.
The home side are unbeaten in six meetings with Brighton in all competitions while winning two of the last three Premier League games against the Seagulls.
Graham Potter’s team have won just one of their eight Premier League games this season. A goalless draw against Burnley means that the visitors have failed to win in their last six league outings. The draw against the Clarets ended a run of five league games without a clean sheet for Brighton. Both teams have also scored in five of the Seagulls last six league outings.
The Seagulls poor form so far this season means that Potter’s team are just three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Brighton have an inconsistent recent away record in the English top-flight. The team from the south coast have won just three of their previous 15 away games in the Premier League. They have also failed to win in their last three league matches on their travels. However, they have visited Everton and Tottenham this season.
Although Brighton do not have a great recent away record, they tend to score on their travels, as they have scored in their previous seven away games. At the other end of the pitch, they have also kept just one clean sheet in their previous six matches on their travels.
Villa have not been great at Villa Park of late, but the victory over Arsenal last time out will lift their spirit once again. The likes of Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins were outstanding in north London. Brighton have arguably been worth more than their six points this season. However, we believe that Villa will have too much quality for the Seagulls.
We also believe that this will follow Villa’s familiar trend of being a high-scoring game. Therefore, we are backing over 2.5 goals scored.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 23/20 and/or over 2.5 goals at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
