Leicester vs Southampton Preview, prediction and odds

Prediction and odds for the game: Leicester (4/5) vs Southampton (10/3)

We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5

When: Saturday, 16th January 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The King Power Stadium

On Saturday night, Leicester and Southampton go head-to-head, as the Foxes look to consolidate their place in Premier League’s top-four.

The Foxes are currently fourth-place in the Premier League table, just four points shy of league leaders Manchester United. A 2-1 win at Newcastle last time out made Brendan Rodgers team four league games unbeaten and kept their chances of mounting a title challenge this season alive.

Leicester have been relatively prolific of late in the English top-flight, scoring two or more goals in five of their last seven Premier League games. Their recent good goalscoring form has contributed to six of their last nine league matches producing over 2.5 goals.

Former England international Jamie Vardy has been good form in front of goal for the Foxes this season, scoring 11 goals in his 16 Premier League appearances.

Rodgers team have been poor on home soil of late, as they have won just two of their last seven league games at the King Power Stadium. The fact that the Foxes have conceded two goals in three of their last four home matches has not helped their chances of securing maximum points.

The team from the south coast are well-positioned to challenge for the top-six this season, only behind sixth-place because of an inferior goal difference.

Southampton’s recent form has been slightly inconsistent, as the Saints have won just one of their last five games in the Premier League. However, that one victory was in a 1-0 victory over reigning champions Liverpool in their last league outing.

The game saw Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team keep a third straight clean sheet in the Premier League. The game was also the fifth Saints league match that had produced under 2.5 goals.

The recent defensive displays are not a major surprise, as only three teams have a better defensive record in the English top-flight than the visitors this season.

Southampton are unbeaten in seven away games in the Premier League, although four of their last six league matches on their travels have finished in draws. Their recent games away from home have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four games.

One positive for the visitors is that they have won 2-1 on their last two visits to the King Power Stadium. However, sandwiched in-between was Leicester’s famous 9-0 win at St Marys.

This clash could be a tight one between two teams looking to challenge for a European spot this season. We are backing the draw, as Leicester are not great at home, while Saints are decent travellers. The other bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals scored, as Southampton have looked strong in defence of late, while the Foxes have struggled to break down teams on home soil.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
