Prediction & odds for the game: West Ham (10/3) v Liverpool (3/4) – ST is backing the away win
When: Sunday, 31st January @ 4.30pm K.O
Where: London Stadium
Liverpool will try and breathe new life into their Premier League title push as they take on top six chasers West Ham United.
Nobody could’ve realistically expected the first half to the season that West Ham United have enjoyed, with their own fans even believing that none of this can possibly be real given how negative things were at the start of the campaign. The real test now is going to be seeing whether or not they can sustain it, because if they can, Europe will be calling – finally fulfilling the prophecy that was set out when they first moved to their new stadium.
The name of the game for West Ham has been simple as of late: winning. They kickstarted 2021 with a narrow yet impressive win over Everton, they beat Stockport in the FA Cup and they proceeded to edge out a 1-0 victory against Burnley. They proceeded to beat West Brom, batter Doncaster to reach the fifth round of the cup and beat Crystal Palace in a game that wasn’t as close as the scoreline may suggest.
After a dodgy run of form that left many wondering whether this season was going to be destined for failure, the injury-ravaged Liverpool have been able to bounce back and insert themselves into the title mix once again. Of course, we’re saying that quite prematurely, but the quality within their squad as a whole is undeniable – and even though neutral fans love to laugh at their expense, there’s no way of denying the entertainment their brand of football creates when they’re playing well.
The 4-1 beating that the Reds gave Aston Villa’s youngsters in the FA Cup was the definition of a false dawn in what has been a fairly horrendous start to the new year. They’ve been beaten by Southampton, Burnley and Manchester United, drew with the latter in the Premier League and only managed to get back to winning ways a few days ago against Tottenham.
This is going to be one of those blood and guts games that goes right down to the wire, and we’re expecting David Moyes to really force his West Ham side to go after the Reds. Unfortunately, that’s precisely the sort of style that Liverpool enjoy, and we’re probably going to see why. We’re expecting a late goal for the visitors that wins them the game and also gives Manchester City something to think about.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-1 Liverpool, meaning we hit the over 2.5 goals marker.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 3/4 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6 (All odds are taken from bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
