Aston Villa vs West Ham preview, prediction and odds

Prediction & odds for the game: Aston Villa (6/5) v West Ham (9/4) – ST is backing the home win

When: Wednesday, 3rd February @ 8.15pm K.O

Where: Villa Park

It’s claret & blue derby time as high-flyers Aston Villa and West Ham United prepare to meet at Villa Park on Wednesday night.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa have had a few setbacks here and there this season but when you analyse their rise back to prominence as a whole, it really has been quite remarkable. In a similar manner to their opponents tomorrow night, they were viewed as contenders for the drop after barely being able to avoid relegation back down to the Championship last season. Now, it’s not outside the realm of possibility to think they could be back in the Europa League in the next few years.

Defeat has been a popular theme so far in 2021 for Villa with their preparations for games largely being disrupted due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the squad. They were beaten by Manchester United and Manchester City, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Liverpool, and even Burnley managed to pull off a shock win against them. In the midst of all that, however, they did manage to secure wins against Newcastle and Southampton.

West Ham

Whatever David Moyes is doing is working and that really is all you need to say about this West Ham United side. The man who was dismissed as a failure after his ill-fated tenure at Old Trafford is finally rebuilding his image in a way that positions the Hammers as a team to worry about in this division. They are strong in pretty much every department and if they can continue to build on that, great things will come to the club in the next few seasons.

Winning had been the name of the game for West Ham in the new year with successes against Stockport, Burnley, West Brom, Doncaster and Crystal Palace in both the Premier League and FA Cup. Alas, their good fortune came to a screeching halt thanks to a 3-1 loss against reigning champions Liverpool.

This is going to be a really tight game, and we actually think Villa are going to be the ones who really seize control of it. West Ham are able to really go at teams and Dean Smith will be well equipped to deal with that threat – or, at least, he should be. This one could quite literally go down to the wire with a last minute goal winning the points for either side, and in our mind, the victory will go to Aston Villa.

Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-1 to the hosts, ensuring that we hit the over 2.5 goals benchmark.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 6/5 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11 (All odds are taken from bet365).
