Prediction & odds for the game: Liverpool (12/5) v Manchester City (21/20) – ST is backing the home win

When: Sunday, 7th February @ 4.30pm K.O

Where: Anfield

Liverpool will try and keep their title aspirations alive as they take on Manchester City in the biggest Premier League game of the season so far.

Liverpool

Must win games in the title race often come around after the new year, but they rarely come as early as February. The defending champions are in an incredibly precarious position and while the instinct may be to blame the many injuries they’ve suffered, they also need to take some responsibility for the lack of quality they’ve shown at times. Jurgen Klopp needs to get a big performance out of them – and fast.

The 0-0 draw against Manchester United served as something of a warning sign for Liverpool before going on to lose consecutive games to Burnley and, ironically, United in the FA Cup. They did manage to get back on the right track with 3-1 wins over Tottenham and West Ham, but things came crumbling down once again soon after as they were humbled in a 1-0 loss to Brighton at home.

Manchester City

After slowly but surely working their way up the Premier League table, Manchester City are now once again the team to beat in English football. Their ability to defend resolutely, seemingly coming from out of nowhere, has ensured that they barely have to change anything from game to game in order to keep on winning. They’re by far the favourites to take the crown, but now, the question is whether or not complacency will become a factor.

This team just cannot stop winning and since mid-January, they’ve carried on that trend quite nicely. They beat Crystal Palace 4-0, Aston Villa 2-0 and Cheltenham in the FA Cup – all in the space of just six days. They proceeded to score eight goals and conceded zero across three comfortable wins against West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnley.

Conclusion

Liverpool always seem to turn up against the bigger sides that they face and we do think they’re capable of pulling off what would be, at this stage in proceedings, a shock result. City are going to take their time and try to break the hosts down slowly but for whatever reason, we just don’t think that’s going to be a tactic that works this time around. We’re going to go with Liverpool securing the win to keep their title hopes alive and well.

Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-1 to the Reds, meaning we hit the over 2.5 goals marker – so buckle up for a game that actually lives up to the hype.

Verdict: Back the home at odds of 12/5 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11 (All odds are taken from bet365).
