Prediction and odds for the game: Barcelona (evens) vs PSG (23/10)
We are backing the home win
When: Tuesday, 16th February 2021, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Nou Camp
On Tuesday night, Barcelona host PSG at the Nou Camp in one of the biggest ties in the last-16 of the Champions League. Both teams will be looking for a good result to take into the second leg in Paris in just over three weeks.
Barcelona
The Catalan giants have found form in recent weeks and have won their last seven league games after a 5-1 trouncing if Alaves last time out. Lionel Messi was the star of the show, grabbing himself a brace. The game was certainly good preparation for the home side for what promises to be a difficult clash.
Their recent form and also a good recent record in the Champions League will send Ronald Koeman’s team into this match in confident mood. The Blaugrana won five of their six group games, a run only ended on gameweek six with a 3-0 home defeat against Italian giants Juventus. The defeat also ended a prolific run of form in front of goal for the home side, who had scored at least twice in their five previous group games.
These two have met relatively frequently in the Champions League of late and Barcelona have won the last three meetings at the Nou Camp.
PSG
The Parisians look to be finding their feet under former Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino. The visitors have now won their last four games in all competitions while conceding just one goal in the process.
Everton loanee Moise Kean has played a key role in their last two victories, scoring in both. The Italian international could be a key figure for the French giants, as they will be without star striker Neymar through injury. Experienced Argentinian attacking midfielder Angel Di Maria is also set to miss out, which is also a big blow to the visitors.
Last season’s finalists have a good recent record in the Champions League, winning their last three matches after losing two of their first three group games. There has certainly not been a shortage of goals of late in Europe for the French team, as three of their last four Champions League games have produced over 2.5 goals.
PSG have been relatively strong on their travels of late in European football’s elite competition, winning two of their three away games in their group. Barcelona at the Nou Camp offers a completely different challenge.
Conclusion
With everybody fit and firing this would no doubt be a closer game. However, as PSG have some key absentees, we are backing Barcelona to record a narrow victory in an entertaining encounter. We do believe this game will produce goals, so we are also backing over 2.5 goals scored.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at evens and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/15. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
