Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester City (1/5) vs West Ham (12/1)

We are backing Raheem Sterling as an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/5

When: Saturday, 27th February 2021, Kick-off 12:30

Where: The Etihad Stadium

On Saturday afternoon, Premier League leaders Manchester City host top-four chasing West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City

The Citizens have been simply relentless of late in winning football matches. A 2-0 midweek win at Monchengladbach in the Champions League means that Pep Guardiola’s team have won 19 straight games in all competitions. The fact that City have won their last 13 league games has contributed to a ten-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Guardiola may have a reputation for his team’s attacking displays, but City have been outstanding in defence of late, as they have kept eight clean sheets in ten league matches, conceding just twice in the process.

City have a good recent record against West Ham, as the Citizens are unbeaten in the last 11 competitive meetings between the two teams, recording nine wins in the process.

Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero will be hoping to feature against a team he has scored ten goals against in his career. The veteran forward has not featured much in recent months due to injuries and COVID-19.

West Ham

David Moyes has turned the Hammers into genuine contenders for a Champions League finish this season. The Irons are two points clear of London rivals Chelsea, who currently occupy fifth place in the Premier League table.

A 2-1 win over another London rival Tottenham last time out means that the visitors have taken ten points from a possible 12 points in the English top-flight. The Irons have been relatively prolific of late in the Premier League, scoring at least twice in three of their previous four games Their recent scoring record has contributed to six of the visitors last seven league matches producing over 2.5 goals.

The Hammers are undefeated in five matches on their travels in the top-flight, recording three goals and also picking up two draws. Their recent away games have been pretty high-scoring in the Premier League, with over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last 11 matches on their travels.

West Ham head coach David Moyes has a poor record against Guardiola. The former Everton boss has faced the Catalan chief on eight occasions, suffering six defeats. Considering City’s recent form it seems unlikely that his poor record will improve this weekend.

Conclusion

Manchester City have shown their quality in recent games and we expect them to record their 20th straight competitive win in this clash. West Ham are in decent form and should offer a threat to the home team’s recent record. However, the Citizens have outstanding of late. The other bet that we are backing is Raheem Sterling to be an anytime goalscorer, as the England star has looked dangerous of late.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 1/5 and/or Raheem Sterling to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
