Prediction and odds for the game: West Ham (15/8) vs Arsenal (11/8)

We are backing the draw at odds of 5/2

When: Sunday, 21st March 2021, Kick-off 15:00

Where: The London Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, West Ham and Arsenal meet at the London Stadium in a capital derby that could have big implications on who plays European football next season.

West Ham

Although the Hammers results have not been great of late, David Moyes’ team are still in the fight for the European spots in the Premier League. The Hammers are fifth in the English top-flight, table trailing fourth-place Chelsea by just three points, with a game in hand on their London rivals.

The Irons recent results have been slightly misleading, as they have lost two of their last three matches in the Premier League. However, those defeats came at the league’s top-two teams Manchester City and Manchester United. Both games resulted in narrow defeats and the home side will be confident of returning to winning ways in the near future.

Their recent home form in the top-flight is cause for optimism, as the Hammers have won five of their last six league outings at the London Stadium while scoring at least two goals in four of their last five home matches in the Premier League. The only blip in the stellar home run was a 3-1 defeat by reigning champions Liverpool.

One negative for West Ham is their poor recent record against the visitors, as they have won just two of the last 27 meetings with the visitors from north London.

Arsenal

The Gunners look to have turned a corner after a highly inconsistent Premier League campaign. Mikel Arteta’s team have won three of their last five league matches while suffering just one defeat against runaway league leaders Manchester City. The recent decent league form has kept Arsenal’s hopes of European football for next season alive, although the visitors are still five points shy of sixth spot.

After some stellar defensive displays in December and January, the visitors head into this clash on the back of a seven-game without keeping a clean sheet in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s recent away form has been mixed in the English top-flight, as the Gunners have won just one of their last four league matches on their travels. The visitors have been dangerous in attack on their league travels, though, as they have failed to score in just one of their previous eight away games in the Premier League.

Conclusion

Arsenal are slight favourites for this clash, but those odds are harsh on West Ham, who can give any team a game on home soil. The Gunners have been underwhelming on their recent travels and we are backing the draw. The other bet we are backing is both teams to score. The Hammers have been potent on their own patch of late, while Arsenal usually scores on their travels.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 5/2 and/or both teams to score at odds of 3/4 (All odds are taken from Bet365)
