England will attempt to strengthen their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes when they take on Poland in their final game of the international break.

England

England head into the Euros this summer knowing that they’re largely viewed as one of the favourites to win the entire tournament. That’s seen as a bit too far for some, whereas others are of the belief that this squad is ready to really contend. We won’t know one way or the other until we actually see it in living colour, but there’s enough momentum behind them to believe things could be different this time around.

A decisive 5-0 win over San Marino seemed to set England on their way to a really successful qualification campaign. They went on to show some positive signs in the game against Albania, even if it wasn’t quite as emphatic, with Gareth Southgate’s men registering a 2-0 success.

Poland

Despite seemingly going through a golden generation of sorts in recent years, Poland haven’t come close to making any major noise in the Euros or World Cup for quite some time. They’re always going to be pinpointed as major contenders when they’ve got someone like Robert Lewandowski at the helm, but instead of building a successful team around him, they’ve instead regressed to the point where it’s hard to see what comes next for them.

Poland knew the game against Hungary was going to be a bit of a slog with both nations being seen as the ‘next best’ team in the group outside of England. In the end it was just as lively as everyone would’ve hoped as the pair played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Then, just a few days later, Poland were able to carry some of that energy forward into a game against Andorra that they wound up winning 3-0.

Conclusion

We think Poland are going to serve as England’s toughest opponents yet in qualifying by quite a considerable margin. They’ve got strong forwards who can really test the Three Lions’ defensive ranks and beyond that, they’re just one of the more talented teams within this group. England should be able to really make a statement and lay down a marker that they’re the ones to beat here, but it’s going to be tough, which is why we think they’ll win but not by an extraordinary margin.

We’re going to say 2-1 England as our official scoreline prediction, ensuring we hit the over 2.5 goals bracket. It’ll be fast-paced, entertaining and will probably feature some late drama for fans to enjoy.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 2/5 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 7/10 (All odds are taken from bet365).
