Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (4/6) vs Arsenal (4/1)
We are backing the home win
When: Wednesday, 12th May 2021, Kick-off 20:15
Where: Stamford Bridge
On Wednesday night, Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, in a London derby that could prove key to the home side’s chances of playing Champions League football next season.
The Blues are in a healthy position to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Thomas Tuchel’s team are third-place in the Premier League table, five points clear of fifth-place London rivals West Ham. Although they could qualify for the Champions League next season via winning the competition in the current campaign, they will still be keen to secure a top-four finish this season.
A 2-1 win at soon to be Premier League champions Manchester City last time out means that Chelsea are undefeated in their last five league matches, having recorded four wins in the process. The Blues have been strong in defence of late, keeping clean sheets in three of their last four outings in the English top-flight.
Tuchel’s team have been tough to beat at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, suffering just one defeat in their previous eight league outings. Defensive improvement has proven the decisive factor in their recent league form on home soil, as they have kept clean sheets in seven of their last eight matches.
The Gunners are experiencing a mediocre campaign. Their last chance of qualifying for the Champions League has now gone after a 2-1 aggregate defeat in the semi-final of the Europa League against Villarreal. Mikel Arteta’s team are now outsiders to make the top seven and play European football next season.
Arsenal are ninth, four adrift of arch-rivals Tottenham, who occupy the final European berth in the English top-flight. However, they also have eighth-place Everton to contend, who are three points ahead of the team from north London, while also having a game in hand.
The Gunners at least head into this derby clash on the back of two straight victories against Newcastle and West Brom. They have been relatively prolific of late in the English top-flight, scoring at least two goals in five of their last eight league outings.
Arsenal’s away form in the English top-flight has been decent in recent months, as the visitors are undefeated in five away matches in the Premier League, recording three wins and two draws. They have been potent on their travels in the top-flight, scoring at least two goals in four of their last five league matches on the road.
Chelsea have looked like a completely different animal in recent months. Arsenal’s recent away form in the league may have been decent, but we can’t look past the home win in this clash. The other bet we recommend is Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer. The Germany international has struggled for goals at times this season. However, he could argue that he has been slightly unlucky not to have scored more goals.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 4/6 and/or Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4. (All bets are taken from Bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
