Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Preview, prediction and odds

Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (1/6) vs Crystal Palace (12/1)

We are backing both teams to score at odds of 21/20

When: Sunday, 23rd May 2021, kick-off 16:00

Where: Anfield

On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool host Crystal Palace at Anfield, in a crucial game for the home teams chances of Champions League football next season. The game will also see former Liverpool head coach Roy Hodgson manage the visitors for the final time.

Jurgen Klopp’s team moved back into the Champions League spots on Wednesday night, with a 3-0 win at Burnley. However, the former champions are only ahead of fifth-place Leicester courtesy of superior goal difference. They also trail third-place Chelsea by just a point.

The Reds have hit form at just the right time in the Premier League, as their win at Turf Moor last time out was their fourth straight league win. The game also saw Liverpool score at least two goals for a fourth consecutive game. In truth, since their wobble in February and March, Liverpool have been in decent form, as they are also now unbeaten in nine top-flight matches.

A record of just two wins from their previous 11 home games in the Premier League is a poor one for a team that are so renowned for their stellar home form. However, both of those wins have come in their last three home league matches.

Crystal Palace

Palace boss Hodgson will bid farewell to Palace and likely the Premier League after this clash. It may be fitting that the veteran head coach finishes his top-flight career at one of his former clubs, even if his spell on the red side of Merseyside was underwhelming.

The Eagles have secured their Premier League status and could finish from 12th place to 16th place in the table. Their recent form in the English top-flight has been poor, as Hodgson’s team has won two of their last eight Premier League games.

Palace have been uncharacteristically poor in defence this season and they have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven outings in the Premier League.

The Eagles have found away wins hard to come by in the English top-flight, winning just one of their last five league outings on their travels. Their recent away matches in the Premier League have been relatively high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine league outings.

This is a massive game for Liverpool, who have found form of late and we expect the Reds to record another win. However, the home win offers no value. Instead, we are backing both teams to score in this clash, as Palace have scored in their last six away matches. Liverpool also look in potent attacking form. The other bet we recommend is Sadio Mane to score anytime, as the Senegalese international has looked dangerous of late.

Verdict: We are backing Sadio Mane to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 8/11 and/or both teams to score at odds of 21/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
