Prediction and odds for the game: France (17/10) vs Germany (7/4)

We are backing the France win

When: Tuesday, 15th June 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Allianz Arena

On Tuesday night, two of the titans of the European game meet, as France and Germany kick-off their European Championships campaign in Munich.

France

The world champions are favourites to win their second straight major international tournament. That favourites tag is justified considering the wealth of talent available to head coach Didier Deschamps.

Les Bleus head into the European Championships on the back of just one defeat in their last 20 international outings. A 3-0 victory over Bulgaria in their last friendly means that France have now recorded four straight wins, all without conceding a goal.

France have won the European Championships on two occasions, in 1984 when Michel Platini inspired his team to victory and back in 2000 after they had won the World Cup in 1998. However, Les Bleus also lost the last European Championships final in 2016, as they went down 1-0 in extra-time to Portugal, despite dominating for much of the tournament.

The current squad will certainly be looking to go one better this time around. Deschamps has a virtually fully-fit squad, with fitness doubts of Karim Benzema and Kurt Zouma their only concerns ahead of kick-off.

Germany

Die Mannschaft will feel they have a big advantage in that all their group games will be played in Munich, likely giving them the majority of the supporters in the stadiums. Joachim Low’s team will be glad of that support in the 61-year-old’s last tournament in charge of the national team.

Germany’s preparations for the competition have seen mixed results, as Low’s team suffered a 2-1 defeat against North Macedonia before a draw with Denmark and a 7-1 hammering of Latvia in their final warm-up game.

Those results may not be inspiring, but Die Mannschaft are the kings of tournament football. In fact, Germany have made at least the semi-finals of the European Championships at the last three tournaments. They will be looking to make up for their terrible World Cup campaign in 2018 when Low’s team crashed out at the group stage of the competition.

Germany will be without Monchengladbach midfielder Jonas Hofmann through injury, while Bayern central midfielder Leon Goretzka is in a race against time to be fit for this clash.

Conclusion

This clash is certainly one to watch in the opening round of group games, as the two teams are amongst the most highly-rated in the beautiful game. France look stronger on paper and have been more impressive on the pitch of late. We are backing Les Bleus to record a victory in this clash. The other bet we are backing is Kylian Mbappe to be an anytime goalscorer. The youngster has thrived in big games in his short career and we are backing him to deliver once again in this clash.

Verdict: We are backing France to win at odds of 17/10 and/or Kylian Mbappe to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 13/8. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
