Prediction and odds for the game: Netherlands (8/15) vs Austria (5/1)
We are backing Memphis Depay to score at anytime at odds of 21/20
When: Thursday, 17th June 2021, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Johan Cruyff Arena
On Thursday night, the Netherlands host Austria in Amsterdam, in Group C of Euro 2020, as both teams look to continue their winning starts to the competition.
Frank de Boer’s team kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-2 win over Ukraine. The victory took the Oranje to five games unbeaten in international football, having recorded four wins in the process. The main factor in the Dutch’s recent good form was their prolific attacking prowess, as they have scored at least two goals in their last eight outings. Their recent scoring form has contributed to seven of their last eight games producing over 2.5 goals.
The Netherlands failed to qualify for Euro 2016, after suffering three defeats at Euro 2012 against Denmark, Germany, and Portugal. A win in their opening game at Euro 2020 was certainly a boost for the Dutch side’s chances of success in the tournament.
They look set to be without Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek through injury. Highly-rated centre-back Matthijs de Ligt missed the opening game and is still a doubt with a groin problem.
Franco Foda’s team opened their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-1 win over North Macedonia. The win ended a three-game winless run for the visitors. The victory also ended a poor run of form in front of goal, as they had failed to score in their previous three international matches.
Austria know that another victory would mean that they make it through to the knockout stages of the European Championships for the first time in their history. However, that is not a disgraceful record considering that it’s only their third time they have qualified for the finals. In fact, the win over North Macedonia ended a six-game winless run at the European championships for Austria, who have a talented squad of players. The Netherlands should offer far more of a challenge Das Team.
The recent history of this fixture is certainly not favourably toward Austria, as they have lost the last six meetings with the Oranje. They have also conceded at least two goals in each of the losses, too.
Austria have no reported injury problems. However, veteran forward Marko Arnautovic could come into the starting line-up after scoring off the bench last time out.
The Netherlands needed a late goal to see off Ukraine last time out, but the Dutch can certainly go up a gear and are the favourites to come out on top in this clash. The Netherlands win offers very little value, so we are looking at the goals market instead. We are backing both teams to score, as both teams have looked dangerous in attack and vulnerable in defence. The other recommendation we are backing is the Netherlands forward Memphis Depay to be an anytime goalscorer.
Verdict: We are backing both teams to score at odds of 4/5 and/or Memphis Depay to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 21/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
