Prediction and odds for the game: Belgium (29/20) vs Portugal (2/1)

We are backing over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10

When: Sunday, 27th June 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Estadio Olimpico de Sevilla

On Sunday night, Belgium and Portugal go head-to-head in Seville in what could be one of the most interesting ties in the last-16 of Euro 2020.

Belgium

The Red Devils had a comfortable passage into the competition’s knockout stages, winning all three of their group games against Russia, Denmark, and Finland. Roberto Martinez’s team was also prolific in goal, scoring at least two goals in all three victories.

A 2-0 win over Finland last time means that Belgium have recorded four straight wins. They are also unbeaten in 12 international matches, having recorded ten wins in the process. Despite their plethora of attacking options, they are not too shabby in defence either, as they have kept clean sheets in four of their last six matches.

Inter forward Romelu Lukaku has been typically prolific during Euro 2020, scoring three goals in the same number of appearances.

Belgium will continue to be without Leicester full-back Timothy Castagne through injury. Thorgan Hazard and Yannick Carrasco are options at left wing-back. Meanwhile, Dedryck Boyata and Jason Denayer are competing for a place in the back three.

Portugal

The Selecao enjoyed mixed fortunes in the group of death, finishing third-place behind France and Germany. A 2-2 draw against group-topping France in their final match of the group set up this clash. Going forward the Selecao were impressive scoring at least two goals in all three group matches, with star player Cristiano Ronaldo scoring five times in three outings. The goals made the Juventus star the highest-scoring player in the history of the European Championships, having scored 14 goals over the course of five tournaments.

That attacking threat has negated some questionable defensive displays at Euro 2020, as they have also conceded at least two goals in two of their three group games. With Belgian’s attacking threat, that poor defensive record could continue in this clash.

Portugal have been inconsistent of late, having recorded just two wins in their last five international matches. It is a slightly inconsistent record.

Despite being European champions, the Selecao have won just two of their last 11 games in 90 minutes. In fact, they drew all three of their group games.

One positive for Portugal is that they are unbeaten in five games against Belgium, recording three wins and picking up two draws.

Conclusion

This should be an exciting clash, with two of the best forwards at the tournament Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku going head-to-head. Although Ronaldo has shone, we are backing Lukaku and co. to come out on top in this game. We also think it will be a high-scoring clash, so we are backing over 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: we are backing the Belgium win at odds of 29/20 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
