Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (29/20) vs Chelsea (19/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10

When: Saturday, 28th August 2021, Kick-off 17:30

Where: Anfield

On Saturday afternoon, two of the Premier League’s heavyweights Liverpool and Chelsea go toe-to-toe at Anfield.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s team have wasted little time in laying a marker down this season. The Reds followed up a 3-0 win at Norwich by recording a comfortable 2-0 win over Burnley at Anfield last time out. The visit of another potential title challenger is a completely different kettle of fish though.

Liverpool’s good start to the season has only continued from their strong form at the end of last season in the Premier League. The Merseysider’s have now recorded seven straight league wins, while also going 12 matches unbeaten in the top-flight. Their defence has returned to their best in their most recent league matches too, as they have now kept four straight clean sheets in the English top-flight.

Their famous home form has also returned of late, as the Reds are now five games undefeated at Anfield in the Premier League, having claimed four victories.

The home team look set to recall Andy Robertson to the starting line-up. The Scotland international looks set to return in place of Kostas Tsimikas at left-back.

Chelsea

Just like their hosts, Chelsea have started their Premier League campaign by recording two straight victories. The Blues opened their league campaign with a 3-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge before a 2-0 win at London rivals Arsenal. The game at the Emirates Stadium saw prolific Belgian Romelu Lukaku make his second debut for the club.

The 28-year-old scored and looked a constant menace to the Gunners backline. His battle with Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk could be crucial to how this clash goes. The former Inter star looks determined to be successful in his second spell at the south west London club.

The good start to the season for the Blues is not unexpected, as German head coach Thomas Tuchel has had a massive impact on the team since his arrival back in January. However, the Blues did suffer a slight wobble in form towards the end of last season. It seems that is well and truly behind them now after the strong start.

Chelsea have been difficult to beat on their travels under Tuchel, as they have lost just one of their last ten away games in the Premier League. The Blues also won this fixture 1-0 last season. The victory was their only win over Liverpool in six meetings though.

Conclusion

Both these teams have made expected strong starts to the new Premier League campaign. It is impossible to separate them at this point, which is why we are backing the draw. Despite the stellar attacking players available to both teams, we think this is going to be a tight game between two very well-drilled defences. With that in mind, we are also backing under 2.5 goals scored.

Our Picks: We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
