Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (4/9) vs Everton (13/2)

We are backing both teams to score at odds of 21/20

When: Saturday 2 October 2021, Kick-off 12:30

Where: Old Trafford

In the Premier League’s early kick-off, Manchester United host Everton, as both teams look to move to the top of the table, at least until later in the day.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have been experiencing mixed fortunes of late. However, last time out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team recorded a late 2-1 win over Villarreal in the Champions League group stages courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo goal. In truth, the result had a lot to do with goalkeeper David De Gea’s brilliance.

The victory over the Yellow Submarine was a welcome one, as United had suffered two straight 1-0 home defeats against West Ham and Aston Villa.

The loss against Villa brought to an end a three-match winning run in the Premier League for the home team. Despite the defeat, United are still just a point behind the league leaders Liverpool.

Manchester United’s recent home form at Old Trafford in the league has been inconsistent, as they have claimed just two wins from their previous six home games in the English top-flight. They have also failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight Premier League matches on home soil.

Everton

The Toffees have enjoyed an encouraging start to their Premier League campaign under former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. A record of four wins and just one defeat from their six top-flight outings is a solid one. Last time out, despite being without several key players, the Toffees recorded a 2-0 home win over Norwich at Goodison Park. The win came on the back of a penalty kick defeat by QPR in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Toffees have been prolific in the Premier League this season, as they have scored at least two goals in five of their last six outings in the English top-flight. Summer signing Demarai Gray has scored three goals and produced one assist in his last five top-flight games.

The Merseysider’s don’t have the best away record of late in the Premier League, as they have won just one of their previous five league games on their travels. The Toffees have also conceded at least two goals in their last three matches away from home.

Everton will still be without forward pair Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as well as captain Seamus Coleman through injury. The Toffees are likely to field an unchanged team from the win over Norwich due to such a dearth of available players to Benitez.

Conclusion

United are big favourites for this clash considering that the visitors are arguably without their two most dangerous attacking players. The home win doesn’t offer much value. The first bet recommend is the over 2.5 goals scored. This is because both teams have shown defensive vulnerabilities of late. They are also dangerous going forward, even if the visitors are missing Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. The other bet we are backing is for both teams to score. Once again for the same reason as above.

Our Tips: Wee are backing over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10 and/or both teams to score at odds of 21/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
