West Ham vs Manchester City Preview, prediction and odds

Prediction and odds for the game: West Ham (6/1) vs Manchester City (9/20)

We are backing both teams to score at odds of 4/5

When: Wednesday 27 October 2021, Kick-off 19:45

Where: The London Stadium

On Wednesday night, West Ham host Manchester City at the London Stadium in what could be the tie of the last-16 in the Carabao Cup.

West Ham

David Moyes team have hit form of late, as a 1-0 win over Tottenham last weekend means that the Irons have now won six of their last seven matches in all competitions. The recent run of form has seen the home team climb up to fourth place in the Premier League table.

With enjoying another strong season the Hammers priority, the Carabao Cup may not be seen as important as other competitions. The fact that Moyes rotated his squad for their 1-0 win at Manchester United in the last round suggests that the Irons objectives lie elsewhere.

The home side has a decent recent record in the competition of late, though, winning three of their last four matches in the Carabao Cup. The exception was a 4-1 hammering at Everton last season when the Toffees were at full strength and in form.

West Ham have a particularly strong home record in the league cup, having won six of their previous seven matches in the competition on home soil. They have also been prolific of late in those home games, scoring at least two goals in five of their last six matches.

Manchester City

The reigning Premier League champions head into this encounter on the back of three straight wins in all competitions. A 4-1 victory at Brighton last time out means that the Citizens have also scored at least two goals in their last four competitive outings.

Pep Guardiola’s team are fighting on all fronts for silverware. Although the Catalan head coach has often fielded rotated teams in the past in the competition, the depth of City’s squad has shone through.

The Citizens are the holders of the Carabao Cup and a 6-1 home win over Wycombe Wanderers last time out means that the Citizens have recorded seven straight wins in the competition. In fact, they have won 11 of their last 12 matches in the Carabao Cup.

Unsurprisingly, City have won their last seven matches on their travels in this competition. They are also unbeaten in 15 away games in the Carabao Cup, a record that dates to 2016.

These Carabao Cup games are always hard to predict, as many teams field weakened teams. West Ham are high on confidence, while City may just be hitting their stride. It could be an enthralling encounter.

We are not going to bet on the winner in this match, instead, we are going to look at the goals market for our recommendations. The first bet we recommend is for both teams to score at odds of 4/5, as both teams have the attacking players to cause their opponents major defensive problems. Our other tip would be back the over 2.5 goals scored, which is for a similar reason for backing both teams to score.

Our Tips: Back both teams to score at odds of 4/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
