Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (22/15) vs Leicester 39/19

We are backing the draw at odds of 5/2

When: Sunday 5 December 2021, Kick-off 16:30

Where: Villa Park

On Sunday afternoon, Aston Villa host Leicester at Villa Park, in what could be a fascinating Midlands derby, as Villa head coach Steven Gerrard faces his former boss Brendan Rodgers.

Aston Villa

The new Villa head coach Gerrard had recorded back-to-back victories in his opening two games in charge of the Villans beating Brighton 2-0 and winning 2-1 at Crystal Palace. However, last time out that winning run came to an end with a 2-1 home defeat against Manchester City.

The defeat against City means that Villa have now lost six of their last eight matches in the English top-flight. One of the main factors in those defeats was poor defensive displays, as the home side has conceded at least two goals in five of the eight defeats.

Villa’s recent home form has been poor, as the Villans have suffered three defeats in their previous four league outings on home soil. They have also conceded at least two goals in each of those three defeats.

The Villans have struggled for Premier League wins over Leicester, winning just one of their previous seven league meetings with their Midlands rivals.

Leicester

Brendan Rodgers’ team has won just once in their last five previous Premier League outings after a 2-2 draw against Southampton last time out. The draw left the Foxes tenth-place in the league table, but just five points adrift of the Champions League spots.

One of Leicester’s main downfalls this season has been their poor defensive performances. Incredibly, the visitors have conceded at least two goals in nine of their last ten Premier League outings. They have also failed to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League since the opening weekend of the season.

The Foxes recent generous defensive displays have contributed to eight of their previous ten league matches producing over 2.5 goals. Judging by both teams’ recent defensive stats, that trend could continue in this clash.

Leicester have an inconsistent recent away record in the Premier League. The visitors are unbeaten in four league matches on their travels but have won just once in their last five away games in the English top-flight. Both teams have scored in their last 14 away matches in the Premier League.

Conclusion

Neither have been that convincing of late, but a win for the visitors could put them within touching distance of the top-four. Villa would leapfrog the visitors in the table with a victory. We believe there is very little between the pair at the moment, so are backing the draw. Considering both teams leaky defences, the other bet we are backing is over 2.5 goals scored.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 5/2 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
