Tottenham vs Arsenal Preview, prediction and odds

Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (11/10) vs Arsenal (13/5)

We are backing half-time/Tottenham at odds of 9/2

When: Sunday 16 January 2022, Kick-off 16:30

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham host Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in a north London derby that could have big implications for the top-four race in the Premier League.

Antonio Conte’s team heads into this north London derby on the back of a Carabao Cup semi-final exit, having lost 3-0 on aggregate to another capital side Chelsea.

However, despite the cup exit, Spurs recent Premier League form has been decent. They are undefeated in eight matches in the English top-flight, while recording a creditable five victories along the way. That recent decent league form has kept them in contention for the Premier League’s top-four this season. Conte’s team are just four points behind fourth-place West Ham, having played three fewer games.

Tottenham’s recent league form on home soil has been good, as Spurs are undefeated in five Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, recording four wins in the run. Spurs have also been prolific in recent home matches, scoring at least two goals in all five undefeated games.

The Gunners drew 0-0 with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg last time out. The draw ended a run of two straight defeats for the Gunners in all competitions. To be fair Mikel Arteta’s team has been in good form in the Premier League, as a 2-1 reverse against Manchester City in their last league match ended a run of four consecutive victories. The good form moved Arsenal up to fifth-place in the table, just two points behind fourth-place West Ham with a game in hand on the Hammers.

The Gunners had also been prolific on the recent good run, as they had scored at least two goals in each of the four straight league wins.

Arsenal have won back-to-back away games in the Premier League at Leeds United and Norwich City. However, they had also suffered three consecutive away defeats before the double wins, so they are vulnerable on their travels.

The visitor’s recent away games have certainly been entertaining, as their previous five matches on their travels in the top-flight have all produced over 2.5 goals. They have also kept just one clean sheet in their last five away games in the English top-flight.

This is a vital game for both teams, which Arsenal have attempted to get called off due to player absentees. However, at the time of writing, it goes ahead. We fancy Tottenham to win this clash. The half-time/Tottenham offers better value than just the straight home win though. The other bet we are backing is over 2.5 goals scored, as these two teams tend to produce high-scoring encounters.

Our Tips: We are backing half-time/Tottenham at odds of 9/2 and/or over 2.5 goals to be scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
