Prediction and odds for the game: Hibernian (7/5) vs Hearts (9/5)

We are backing the away win

When: Tuesday 1 February 2022, Kick-off 19:45

Where: The Easter Road Stadium

On Tuesday night, Hibernian and Hearts clash in the Edinburgh Derby at Easter Road, with the home side attempting to consolidate their spot in the top-six of the SPL.

Hibernian

Shaun Maloney’s team are currently fifth-place in the SPL table with the objective for this season now very much finishing in the top-six of the Scottish top-flight table. They are just two points clear of seventh-place Dundee United, though.

Hibs head into this clash on the back of a three-game winless streak in the SPL, having picked up one draw and suffered two defeats in the process. Their last league win was on Boxing Day against Dundee United. They also conceded at least two goals in two of the three winless games.

Hibs have an inconsistent recent home record in the SPL, although they have won just two of their last seven league games at Easter Road. Their recent home matches in the Scottish top-flight have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five SPL outings on home soil.

Hearts

The visitors are enjoying a creditable season and currently sit third place in the SPL table. Robbie Neilson’s team are 12 points behind second-place Celtic, but ten points clear of fourth-place Motherwell.

The Jam Tarts are in good form, having recorded four wins in their previous five games in the Scottish top-flight. Last time out they recorded a 2-0 home win over Motherwell, with Everton loanee Ellis Simm’s scoring his first goal for the club since joining the club earlier this month.

The youngster could prove to be a shrewd addition to the Hearts squad, as their current top league scorer is Northern Ireland international Liam Boyce with eight goals. However, the visitors have still managed to score at least two goals in three of their previous four matches in the SPL.

Hearts have an inconsistent recent away record in the league. The visitors have won their last two away matches in the SPL at Livingston and Dundee. However, they had failed to win in their previous away games in the Scottish top-flight. Their recent away matches in the league have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven matches.

Conclusion

This derby is all about bragging right in the Scottish capital. Hearts are certainly in the better form of the two teams and we are backing Robbie Neilson’s team to record a third straight away win.

We also fancy young Ellis Simms to be an anytime goalscorer. He was prolific in the youth ranks at Everton and his maiden goal will have him in confident mood.

Our Tips: We are backing the away win at odds of 9/5 and/or Ellis Simms to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 12/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
