We are backing the draw at odds of 11/4

When: Tuesday 15 February 2022, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Parc des Princes

On Tuesday night, PSG host Real Madrid at the Parc des Princes in what is the most high-profile clash of the Champions League last-16. The question is which of these European giants will record a vital first-leg victory?

PSG

The French giants are running away with their domestic title, as they are currently 13 points clear at the top of Ligue One. While they may be keen to regain their French crown from Lille, the Champions League always has been the club’s elusive holy grail.

They have yet to win European football’s elite competition, despite spending a small fortune in the last decade to claim the European crown.

However, the Parisians do have a mixed recent record in the Champions League, having won just three of their last nine matches in the competition.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team have at least been prolific of late in the Champions League, having scored at least two goals in four of their last five outings.

PSG also eliminated the Spanish visitors from the competition in 2019, recording a 5-2 victory at this stage of the competition.

The home team could well be without former Real Madrid icon Sergio Ramos through injury, Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera looks set to miss out against his compatriots.

Real Madrid

Los Blancos head into this tie arguably on the back of their worse run of results of the season, as a goalless draw at Villarreal last time out means that Carlo Ancelotti’s team has now won just once in their four outings.

The absence of top scorer Karim Benzema through injury of late has hampered their potency in front of goal, as the Spanish giants have scored just one goal in their last three matches in all competitions. The veteran forward is still a fitness doubt for this clash and it could be a late call whether he starts or not.

When it comes to the European Cup, Real Madrid have been kings of competition, lifting the trophy on 13 occasions. Their recent record in European football’s elite competition is good too, as the visitors have won their last four games in the Champions League while scoring at least two goals in each of the victories and conceding just one goal in the process.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that this tie could be the highlight of the last 16 of the Champions League. It pits two of the biggest and best football teams in the European game against each other.

It is likely to be close over the two legs, as both teams have players who could decide who progresses to the next round. The first bet we recommend is to back the draw, as we don’t believe there will be much between these two teams and neither will want to give much away in the first leg.

The other bet we are backing is for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior to be an anytime goalscorer. The youngster has been in fine form this season, even if it has fallen off slightly of late, he will still cause PSG defensive problems.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 11/4 and/or Vinicius Junior to be anytime goalscorer at odds of 15/8. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
